4850... add another but limit both to 8x

Hey, I've got a maximus II mobo, and I thought it was absolutely perfect for me, it had legacy PCI x1 for my old sound system, it had old school ram that was better than the (slow or expensive at the time) DDR3 earlier this year. It had over the top marketing, and just looked like a board you could trust. Also of interest was the crossfire x2 support.

Way after the purchase I realize that with this mobo... if I put in a second x16 4850, both will be reduced to 8x bandwidth. I'm a little bummed that I didn't catch this. Is this something I will notice? Is it worth it to add another 4850 (512mb right now vid)?

I haven't had much trouble in games, but once in fallout 3 I noticed lag, and I also can't play in very high video settings, so will performance here be improved or is there another bottle neck?

You will get more FPS which will make your games run smoother.

Is your MIIF the P45 version? If so, PCI-E2.0 is effectively 16x from what I have read and understood, it has been proven that current cards don't even use the full bandwidth of the PCI-E 1.0 16x lane, so you're fine if you ask me ;)

Yep, it's the P45 MIIF. I hadn't realized PCIe 2.0 doubled the bandwidth, I assumed it was just extra marketing for the term '16x' I feel tons better about the mobo now, thx!
