3770k defaults to 39x multi ???

Booted up this morning and found my base clock dropped to 3.9 instead of 4.6, booted into the bios and the multi was still set as 46, rebooted and its at 3.9 again, checked and rechecked all my settings and i have no clue whats going on, anyone dealt with this problem before ?

Ok found out what it was, apparently the electricity went out last night whilst i was away and my rig was number crunching, reset to factory settings and started over and it seems to be back to normal now, dont you just love surprises lol

Damn those power companies charging us all a fortune for electricity and then just cutting it off when they feel like it .

Good that's its nothing too serious and was an easy fix

sounds like a good time to consider a battery backup (UPS). it'll deffo save
on broken electronics due to brown/black-outs.
dont understand that a power drop will lose BIOS info? im thinking more other
things than a brownout. but, monitor the issue..

Could a power surge not act as a CMOS wipe?

Normally not .. unplugged my pc by mistake a few times, Bios settings were safed everytime.

That's disconnecting from the power, a power surge forces more power through. You'd hope that your PSU would be able to 'absorb' the surge, mind you.

It would and in your house should be some 16 amp fuses

I'd get a surge protector, if you have not already got one. You don't want your costly pc components going up in smoke , and like airdeano said monitor the issue.

i never fire a PC again without a UPS or at minimum a surge protector. i have a
600watt protector the size of a standard PSU for portibility. minimal dollars and
maximum protection.. Tom even harped on having a UPS when building the server.
sure you want protection, but it doesn't have to power the system for 15hours
at least 15min to power everything down safely. they even can tie into the OS
incase of voltage drop and recover... simple help for complex systems.

Just ordered a Belkin 8-Socket SurgeMaster Maximum Series with Telephone and AV Protection, the wiring in my house is stupidly bad.

A lamp blew a few days ago for no reason apart from turning it on lol
