3-Way SLI. Here comes the monster

"NV now are having the 3-way SLI driver testing. Actaully the Driver are already handed out to the downsteam mainnufacters for weeks. The progress of the tests are going well. but we should notice the special 3-way bridge in the PIC. 680i SLI can not play 3-way SLI without the bridge. Without the bridge the bandwidth of PCIe1.0 are not enough for three card SLI.

Of course things are not that easy. Even you've got the driver, the 3-way bridge and a 680i SLI, you cant play 3-way with only that. What we need are three expensive 8800 Ultra or GTX.

We already know the 8800GT(G92) will come out with 780i SLI in the middle of Nov, and NV pull 8800GT to Oct. 29th. then when will 780i SLI debut?"

Would anyone else like to make a single-card pledge?

Oh this is just getting silly now. Who the hell needs 3 GFX processors to run the games out today, which is what they are really aiming this at? I mean the only people who are going to have this are people with WAY too much money or sponsorship, which as far as I know is non of EP-UK!!

I for one am very tempted to just say screw SLI and CrossFire because things are getting stupid and people in the US with sponsorship are going to be unstoppable. I have a single HD 2400XT and 2 X300SE's, I'm intending on loosing one of the X300SE's looking for the highest I can go with it, and I'm already 130ish points off no1 HD 2400XT in 2k1. I'm sticking to singles and low - mid range CrossFire / SLI. No way am I spending silly money on this, it's not worth it for real world use.

If people want to spend this sorta money, more fool them imo.

I'm with u Kenny. Single card all the way!!

3 gtx/ultra cards in sli is actually more expensive than buying an oven....so thats its only use borked already...

;)

Although three way 800GT could be an interesting budget proposal for high scoring without even overclocking?

I really dont want to entertain multi gpu again unless it's a single slot design like the old GX2 series 7950's - but if you can get higher scores with 3x £100 cards than you can with 1x £400 card, then why not?

I have to agree with u on this one buddy. If 3 x £100 cards offer better performance than a £400 card then sure why the hell not. Not only this but I for one like the sli idea because if you get a supporting mobo then theoretically if a game comes out later on (and you've been saving) say a year down the line then you can just pop another gfx card in and away you go. It's like a downpayment a little. Imagine buying 1 gtx for crysis now then another when crysis 2 or farcry 2 comes out next year (not to say crysis 2 is coming out and especially not in such a small time frame it's just an example people).

However, it's not all roses the one thing i hate is the heat it would produce and power it would consume. I really wish they would produce smaller die gfx cards asap as the heat in my office is horrific if i leave my system running for a day with the door closed (30C ish!). I want to see cooler running cards but at the same time faster! I know i'm just wishing but hey if i can't dream what's the point.

Sits patiently waiting for 9800gtx :p

Seems to me Nvidia is just trying to keep up with ATI as TRI-Fire is on its way with the new AMD phenom boards!!! They just want to be left behind when they hit as the ORB is gonna be all ATI at the top otherwise & thats not good advertising|!

If these do come out on the 12th hopefully they will support the 8800GT because ive been told thats when they will be being sold, not sure if thats for everywhere but thats the date ive been told they can be sold to me.Hoepfully i can get them shipped to me for that date if the drivers do come out on the 12th and they support the 8800GT, ill be having to buy three instead of two. :(

And even with this setup you can't max out crysis and get good framerates, though maybe after a couple of driver releases.
