2gb crucial ballistix

I have been reading the alarming amount of people which have had there ram dye on them,or been unable to get the same overclock as they did when they were new.

Has anyone else tried these sticks and if so what is there experience with them?

Guess what.

yep - mine has just died. It's partly responsible for all the problems I have been having. To really top it off, I caught a virus over the last weekend which slipped through Norton's and it took me 14 hours to kill it off and reinstall. THEN I discovered the reinstall wouldnt work because the ram was playing up. I had to stick a spare 512mb stick in and go from there. Very frustrating for such expensive memory! And yes I've been hearing all sorts of reports too - it's just as well Crucial support is one of the BEST to deal with in the UK. (myself excluded obviously :) )

I think i speak for most when i say the 2gb is of much interest to me with the arrival of "Vista" later in the year it will be vital, there are already games on the market which beefit hugely with the extra ram.

I hope they get this matter sorted soon as i am looking to update from me trusty BH5

I had two lots, first lot wouldn't go above 205mhz from the off so sent it back (crucial have great customer service from my experience) so now have a new set which does 270/3-3-3-7/1T/2.8V.

I'm not sure that 2Gb is completely worth while yet tbh. I can't see much performance difference between 1Gb or 2Gb.

Sorry to hear about your RAM though Phil, that's a bugger. Also use AVG Free, it's much better than Norton and doesn't eat half your resources.

Is that at 1T fatty mate? - at those timings it's hard to ignore the burning temptation to purchase if those timings are correct.

Anything higher than CAS2.5 at 265 is no good to me at all.

well my first set of ballistix went bad...or rather one stick (but you have to rma the set) wouldnt do 200mhz.... the new set is absolutely fine and currently running 280fsb 3-3-3-8 2.8v 1T :D

well i cant believe no one has mentioned this stuff, probs because its vry new and probably over looked as its rated at pc3500, anyway its the new corsair 2gb pc3500ll pro stuff, and i cant rate it high enough i really cant, it firstly has those little activity leds (which some people may like), it rated at 2-3-2-6 @ 216fsb! so not bad it do slight overclocks or can run high multi's like on fx's. Anyway mine is doing 261fsb @ 2.5-3-3-6, 110% stable, bf2 runs like a dream and i dont care what any one says 2gb of ram for bf2 is needed, it runs so fast and means i get all the choppers and tanks at the start of a map change :p.

2.5-3-3-6 @ 260fsb @2.7v is not bad, some peeps run 2.8v for 260+fsb but i dont have a fan over my ram so who knows what it will do. Of course it will do 300+fsb @ 3-3-3-8 but those timings are too slack 4 me!!! i really can't recommend these enough and teh only reason bought em was because of the timing's and teh fact that the ballistix's are now goign crap on people!!! If you want new or thinking of new 2gb sticks get em!!!!

Phil

I have looked at these sticks as well they do a xms4400 version i might have a closer look at all the 2g sticks on the market at the moment and do a round up,thanks for the insight.

scorchio, u sure they do the xms4000 in 2gb. i know vr-zone had a review on them, but cant see any etailers with them or on corsairs website.

phil these runnin at 1t?

Ahhh too much RAM to choose from. It's a whats best TCCD or BH5, and then we have the VX chips. It's all so confusing and annoying. One thing I have learnt, stay away from Balistix lol.

And thats the annoying thing out and out perforemance the Ballistixs carn't be beat its just finding a good set,its a good job they have such a good customer support group sounds like they need it.

Things are getting closer now though i do want 2gb for my PC but i think i will wait until the new year before deciding which.

Hmmmm, now why you have to go and say that? Your making me think about a set again!!!

For my own info is 2Gb REALLY worth it, or is 1Gb still better for clocking?

2Gb is definitely worth it. The latest dual channel kits are better for overclocking too because you can use 1T with them. I'm testing my new Gskill kit here today. I'll probably have some Crucial Ballistix up for grabs soon mate if you want it.
