Id be faffing amazed if the 980 Ti doesnt come with 6gb - AMAZED because it will be a total f-up. Plus its half of the TX so it makes sense......
+1
Almost definitely going to be a 6gb card with a 384bit bus.

I think the growth of vram will slow down once dx12 is here, from what I have read DX12 deals with textures differently allowing better more efficient use of available vram.
I think stacking vram will happen as its now common knowledge that its a feature of DX12 and Im sure Microsoft discussed this with the gpu vendors before announcing it.
I think the release of DX12 will be a monumental change in the way current gpu's work

I highly doubt it. I'd be more worried about a lack of power than vram.
What do you actually have and what do you want to change?

Thing is you can SLI and tri SLI 980s. As such they become great 4k candidates, yet 4gb makes absolutely no sense at those resolutions.
no no hear me out on one rumour/(fact?) that everyone isnt mentioning.
Directx 12 is supposed to stack up vram for sli/crossfire cards. So if Dx12 comes out like the rumours suggest, then sli 980s will grant you 8 gb of vram as opposed to the 4 today.
so this along with many others is expected but not confirmed about directx but i like to think that there's no smoke without a fire.
is it in Nvidia's or Amd's interests to stack up vram? no - since that would giive users less reason to put down 1100 euros on a Titanx or on that amd monster of equivalent price. So its likely that this wont see the light of day, but till its confirmed, your 980s are perfectly fine. i wouldnt think of upgrading them at all.
What do I have?... Corsair HX750i, ASUS Strix 980 and a regular BenQ 24" monitor.
Just thinking of getting the ASUS Swift 27" 1440p 144Hz monitor and thinking after all of this that my 980 might not cope with it?...
That might be true dude... although, I've never really been a fan of more than 1 card, I've always liked to have a single card, don't know why though. So that's why I'm thinking of maybe an upgrade would be the best path for me?...
That might be true my friend, but as I mentioned above, I'm not a huge fan of mulitple graphics cards, especially since I'm on mATX platform (not as much cooling potential as an ATX one, I assume)...
Btw guys, I just looked out of curiousity and the Titan X only have blower style cooler?, aren't there any after market coolers such as the Strix, or are they coming?...
Nvidia doesn't permit third party coolers on titan cards. Titan or titan X.
Ohhh.... didn't know that, but now I do though. Thanks.
Anyone that can confirm how those coolers are?... loud, quiet, average/OK?
Titan X cooler is pants. They're noisy and can't keep up at moderate levels, so the card ends up throttling.
Theoretically it's pretty much the same cooler the original had, yet full fat Maxwell needs more cooling. So you're pretty much looking at after market cooling or one of those AIO adapters.
You can run the fans on high (80-100%) but then they make a ton of noise.
Problem is that all takes time. I reckon it will be at least two years from launch that we see proper DX12 titles taking advantage of all of the new features.
So what do you do 'til then with this console slop eating VRAM?
BTW just noticed you're from Croydon. I used to live in Mitcham so I feel for you.....

So what's my best option here then?, a Titan X or any other card?...
As my retailers only have Titan X's, I might need to expand my search and go onto overclockers.co.uk. Or do you have any other recommendations, I live in Sweden by the way?
Personally i hate ea, truly despise them and will never buy a ea product. "hell i wont even pirate it" But for 1ce i think they have the right idea.
Wait for the AMD 390x to drop which will bring the real Titan card about. Now just isn't the right time to buy unless you can afford the asking price for the Titan X and simply don't care how much money you spend.
Fact is within three months we are going to have a 6gb Titan X that costs £400 less than the one we have now. Is 6gb more VRAM worth £400 to you?
Nvidia are just taking the piss because they can. AMD have nothing on the table so they can charge whatever they want for the Titan X. I mean seriously? Titan? that name should not even exist and wouldn't if AMD stopped messing up. But their timing ever since the 7970 has been bloody awful and because of that Nvidia have invented new ways to sell a GPU, stupid new names and stupid prices.
When the 7970 launched Nvidia had the 580 out and the 7970 was far better than the 580. It took Nvidia ages to come in with Kepler but ever since they did AMD have fallen behind and keep getting to market second.
I dunno dude. It's your money and your life I guess is the short answerI would be a hypocrite if I said "All out no" because I own two Titans myself. There just wasn't anything else truly appropriate when I bought them. I mean shit, I could have bought three 780s but had I? man, I would have kicked myself so hard when the VRAM ran out.
So you won't ever buy any Battlefield game then?... as in it's heart, it's DICE's game, not EA's. EA simply bhought up DICE, but in it's heart, it's DICE's game.

Yeah true that... might try and see if I can return my 980, hold on a little longer and wait and see untill the 390X (is that name even confirmed guys? :huhcomes around and see what the market has to offer.
But you're absolutely right though, £400 for 6GB more Vram, that is just insane, like shooting yourself in the foot.
No... if prices drop on Titan's or so when the 390X comes, I might pull the trigger at that time. Will follow JR's "advice" earlier
Thanks lads!(see what I did there?
)
never played a single battle field game..
the closest i have come to EA is playing tiger woods golf on a friends wii. Starting to enjoy it then trying to go play online and instantly remembered why i stopped buying ea games many years ago..
"if you havent guessed they had closed down the server"
I doubt they miss me at all, but there is a principal here lol. And i know what EA are like so i guess the old saying comes in to effect.
fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me..
Ubi soft are pretty close to suffering the same fate as EA did when it comes to my money lol. But again i doubt they lose much sleep over me.
Or you can return the 980 and buy a 290x 8gb cheaper?
Then Crossfire it later on?
Ever since the BF3 + GTX 470 VRAM issue I had I will never overlook it again. Yeah my Titans were expensive, but there still isn't a card with 6gb+ vram to replace them apart from the Titan X. That's pretty impressive really. I mean the 900 series thus far have had absolutely nothing to offer me.
Now what Nvidia actually wanted me to do? they wanted me to buy either a 780 or 780ti 3gb then upgrade to the 970 or 980 3.5gb and 4gb then upgrade again to the 980ti 6gb.
So this is why, sometimes, just sometimes, Titans make an awful lot of sense. Especially if you are a serial upgrader. If you are they can actually save you money.
Battlefield : Bad Company 2 was the best of the bunch. It really was an epic single player FPS. And at the time it launched it was one of the best looking games I had ever clapped eyes on.
BF3 single player was pony and BF4 is even worse. I've not even completed the campaign. And yeah I know they were mainly designed for multi player but I don't play MP games.

The Titan X cooler is actually very good and makes the one found on the reference 290X look and sound like something out of the dark ages.
Yet it's still not good enough.
Is there anything that is?...
The Titan X needs custom cooling badly. Sadly Nvidia see it as their private jack off toy and won't allow any AIBPs to custom cool it.
EVGA's new Hydro AIO thing would work well but then you're in well over a thousand pounds.
Not worth it.
