2013 Gaming Build!! Cpu concern

Hi all,

This is the first time I've ever posted in oc3d forum though I've known it for a long time :)

So, this is my situation. Last week I took my delided i5 3570k to change the TIM for the cpu die. I accidentally put way too many Coollaboratory on it and it fried my cpu and mobo. Pretty sad.

Right now, I need a new cpu and a mobo. Which should I get for a gaming PC:

1/ AMD 8350 + ASUS Crosshair V = $380

2/ Intel Core i5 4670k + ASUS Sabertooth z87 = $420

3/ Intel Core i7 3770k + ASUSSabertooth z77 = $450

I really like the price of AMD combo but I've never have a AMD setup before. Also, I'm concerning about the temp of Haswell cpus, which may affect the OC headroom. Anyhoo, I'm just a newbie when it comes to computer stuff. The i5 3570k that I fried was my first buid, so I'd love to hear your inputs.

Thank you in advance.

P/S: Please, please, please excuse my English since I'm not a native speaker.

Edit:

GPU: EVGA GTX 680 SC Signature

SSD: OCZ Vertex4 128Gb, Samsung 840 500Gb

i have an 8320 an i find it is amazing. for gaming you're not going to see much, if any difference between those processors 5fps max if that.

Id save the money. you can see my rig in my signature, i have yet to find a game that i cannot play maxed out at 1080p, most games average between 50-60fps with only crysis 3 and farcry 3 hovering around the 30-40fps mark

Interesting, there is only 5fps different between those processors, so FX8350 is better choice since I can save some money. Is that right?

take a look at linus's comparison he did back in march and the tek sundicate comparisons back in january, in some games the 8350 pull ahead of the 3770k and in others it rails behind by about 10%
it is subjective and epends on what games you play. either way the diference between the cpu's wil not be so great that a game is playable on one system and not the other.

Thank you. I jus checked the review on youtube and seems like amd will be a better choice..... I think. Now i have to learn how to overclock AMD processor then. Its not as easy as Intel's

Hi. I'm also new to the forum and to building a PC. I'm starting with the G1 sniper M5
mobo but I just don't know which cpu to go with. I want a Intel i7 (mainly because of only known an old dual core build for 4 years). But which one? And which Saphire ATI card do you think? Well thanks

This. ;)
Anyway, for now I'd say the 4670k, but if you rather want an AMD setup then get the 8350, as that's a nice chip too.
Do note that steamroller (and maybe even excavator) will use AM3+, so if you get AMD and want to upgrade, you won't need to get a new mobo :)

If it is just for gaming and gaming alone go for the AMD chip. Also, steamroller will not be a massive increase in performance.

Also, what games do you play? Some games aren't a massive fan of the 8xxx supposedly (never had an issue when I had mine but better safe than sorry :P)

I'm not really comfortable with AMD setup since I've never had one before. It's nice to know that Steamroller will use AM3+ socket. Or maybe Intel setup with i5 4670k with UD4H (i like the color scheme of this one)

Well, my games mostly are Fps type like Crysis3, Farcry3, BF3, ect and BF4 in the future. I heard someone stated about performance of AMD CPU will be better than Intel's in next-gen games. Is it possibly true?

Pretty sure those are the games that are given as the ones in which the AMD processors do (slightly) better :D. Supposedly they will be better as they share quite a bit in common with the next generation of consoles as well.

Also, coming from someone who moved from intel to AMD, there is nothing to be uncomfortable about, bar changing the cpu cooler :l.

I went from amd to intel and I can tell you that amd coolers are much more user friendly ( in my exp) and clocking them is by no means a completly different kettle of fish. From what I remember they have much lower multipliers. I cant remember exactly but I think my old phenom had a 20x multiplier with a fsb of 215 or somewhere around that mark to get a 4.3 clock. Could be different on the 990 boards. But amd chips are no harder to overclock in my experience.

biostar TA890FXE Ver. 5.x i think this one looks good for gaming purposes, it is already advanced clock calibration supported! and i think its already worth to have green power saving mode and this 1 has it.. =)

In most situations you'll be GPU limited before either of these chips so it doesn't really matter. Just be careful because it is game dependent. I'm a big Shogun 2 fan and that leans heavily on a single thread even though it is multi-threaded. If I had an AMD CPU then my minimums would be in the 20s rather than the 30s.

A friend of mine has asrock for long while and he said its really high-end and cheaper than the rest or should I say price is exactly good.

I am using my biostar AMD since half a year and im still satisfied on it, i dont know with other brand but so far mine provides proficient sound quality as I am quite of a gamer! =D

Ah, and did you check for current drivers for your graphics card or motherboard? usually there are many performance fixes in the newest versions!
