So ive been thinking about hoppin on the 2011 band wagon here and ditching the 2500K for somthing newer. the 2500K use to OC to 4.6 for me no problems, but over the years, which have been good, it now tops out at 4.2. Been thinking about gettin the 5820K when they arrive. what you guys think?

I wanna say general use? some gaming, some video rendering, some web browsing, sometimes i have VM's running for different projects im working on, folding (in the winter)....normal every day nerdy computer stuff

Wouldn't say that's worth the money to upgrade to Socket 2011+3 and DDR4 RAM.

I'd opt for a 4790k and spend the rest on something like another GPU.

I would say wait for the x99 platform and ddr4 ram unless you are desperate to do heavy video rendering now or heavy virtual machine work

2011-3 is the X99 platform :-P

TBH the 5820k is pretty good value. And if you get the Vengeance LPX DDR4 you could have a sick rig for a reasonably decent price.

I'm running a 3930k and I'll be moving up to a 5960X before the end of the year. I refuse to go from a Hex to a Hex give me them octocores!!!

Because it's the enthusiast line its always going to cost abit more then the consumer line but hey we are enthusiast after all.

I plan on buying my components over 6ish weeks to lesson that kick in the guts that would come from buying it all at once haha

This weekend we should see some big announcements for mobo's for X99 and I wonder if anything about the GTX880 will surface.

If money isn't a big deal it will be a worthy performance upgrade, however, generally its only worth it for the real heavy stuff and if you only occasionally do the real heavy tasks then the 4790k will still do you very well.

There will not be a GTX880..They are releasing the 9XX, if all the hear say the last 2 days is to go by.

I have my 5820k on the way, upgrading from a 2600k. From what I've seen thus far, it is most certainly a worth-while upgrade, especially for those who, like myself, do a bit of everything - gaming, video editing and rendering, etc.

In the long run a platform like X99 can save you money as you don't need to upgrade as often as you would with mainstream setups.

I still use my X58 setups and next year after xmas when I get round to building an X99 setup I expect I will still be using my X79 PCs for a long time after too.

I still feel my 3930k is a beast, but things like M2 etc are drawing me to X99. My 3930K R4BE etc will be getting passed onto my dad who is still running a Q6600.
