12V rails

Well i think my PSU is on its last legs (random shut-offs & odd noises). So im fingers crossed ill get some money on friday (b-day ).

Im looking at a few 500/600w units, and most of them have 3 or 4 12v rails at circa 20a. Then theres things like the Zippy that shove out a huge 40a on a single rail.

Which is better for a single card, watercooled set-up, 4 rails or 1?

Thats one of my options, althogh i may have to barter

What advantages do 1 or 4 rails give?

If the single is better why bother with 4?

Well if the layout of the PSU isn't that great you can run into problems.

Mine has:

+5V @ 40A

+12V @ 34A/38A

-5V @ 0.3A

-12V @ 2A

+3.3V @ 30A

+5VSB @ 3A

continuous = 510W

peak = 650W

Take it this way: it power my rig with an 8800GTX, C2D @ 3.6GHz, Pump, X-Fi, 3 x HDD's, X-Fi breakout, Crystalfontz LCD, DVD-RW and 10 fans

Its only got the 1 +12v rail, so both cards will run off a single rail. This is better IMO, especially for units rated at ~600w

11? 16? now I feel inferior with only 3 fans

My thought is 1 rail would be better as it eliminates the switching and balancing of multi rail PS.

(my thought always has been more stuff more chance for probs)
