PSU/Rails (Tagan TG580...?)

Need a new PSU for the X2/7900GT rig, initial thought was Seasonic S12 600w, but the older revs (and some of the newer it seems) appear to be having issues with the DFI's. That and the split 12v rails are a bit of a put off.

Next option was another 520w Powerstream, but they seem almost impossible to find in the UK at the moment...

So, current thinking is a Tagan TG580-U22. The 12v rail can be combined to run 32A which should be beefy enough. Only slight concern is with the 5v rail, its rated to 30A, compared to the 40A on the 520w Powerstream. However the Seasonic is also rated to 30A, so its probably not much of an issue..

Anywho, anyone using a TG580 at the moment? Whats the droop on the rails like? General thoughts etc.

Would another Powerstream be a better option (having said that, could swap the Tagan over to the Dothan rig if required, its not exactly high draw....)

PP&C are not an option btw. As much as i'd like one 150 quid for a 510 SLI is a little over budget, + need something thats quite quiet...

Cheers

I`m using the 580U-15, and its rock solid. for a high-end SLI system, I`d probably use a 2nd PSU, but insplit mode, its unstoppable. Also very quiet.

The combined rail should be higher than 32A, but the voltage stability should be better in split mode.

Cheers mate, thanks for the advice. Taking you're happy with the unit then?

Dont worry about the 5V thing, most of the major power draw with modern systems is off the 12V rail, 30A on the 5V rail should be plenty.

Delighted! So happy I`m thinking of buying another when I got the money for reasons not ready to be disclosed yet, but its not coz the one I have aint supplying the necessary...

:D

excellent i have a tagan 530 u22 and its quieter than my old enermax noisetaker 600w, the rails are dissapointing under full load only 11.86 on the 12v line

Forgot about this thread! Well so far all is good. Rails seem pretty decent under load, supplies quiet and cool too. Not really pushed the unit yet, but impressed so far. Would rather have used another powerstream, but they seem impossible to find at the moment!
