1200p or 1080p for games and daily use?

Currently I am using 23" 1080p IPS monitor but I am planing to buy new 1080p IPS monitor and use it as my TV display. But I thought that I can use my current 1080p monitor for TV use and buy new monitor for PC.
Now I can't chose between 1200p (16:10) and 1080p (16:9).
1200p has more pixels and that means more workplace and quality but 1080p has wider viewing angle and it's cheaper.

(1200p 24'') Dell UltraSharp U2412M for 174 LVL coverted to 211 GBP

Is it worth to sacrifice 1080p viewing angle for 1200p resolution?

Uhm that's something you need to decide for yourself I think. If you work with a lot of long documents, big spreadsheets, photoshop, etc... more workspace is always nice.

1200p and 1080p are both 1920 wide so you don't have a wider viewing angle, just some more space vertically.

The U2412M uses an e-IPS panel which has great viewing angles, not sure what the problem is here. What is the 1080p screen you're comparing it to?

Personally I'm a big fan of 16:10 screens, that extra bit of height on the screen is lovely.

I don't know why but it has. 16:9 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Hor169.jpg and 16:10 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Hor1610.jpg

Currently I use LG IPS236.

well this is an issue you have to sort out really.

i personally prefer 16:9 panels but i know that there are many 16:10 fans out there.

best thing to do is to go a local pc store like curry's etc. and just compare them yourself, im sure they will be helpful with that.

Those are not good comparison pictures for 16:9 and 16:10. If they were to be proper comparison pics, the vertical dimensions of the pics would be different from each other. In those two pics the horizontal is the one which is different, ie: they do not give a true representation of the differing views you'd get.

As they're both IPS screens they'll both be viewable from broadly similar angles.

i choose ratio like this

if its primary function is to watch media, films blurays, games then 16:9, purely because movies and cut scenes are fullscreen, looks more natural if that makes sense

if its production work, like word or excel, photoshop or video editing, 16:10 as the screen real estate helps alot, you may only think ok its extra 120 pixels, but it helps!

As has been said 16:10 is useful for longer documents. In my case I find the extra screen real estate useful for programming. Some games have the horizontal lines at the top and bottom, but most are fine at 1920 x 1200.

i ran a 16:10 monitor for about a year, then it pissed me off so badly that i bought a 16:9 screen. i don't get what people like about that resolution, especially if you are recording something it will have black borders on youtube etc.. if you don't care about fov etc. and just want it for work and you are okay with spending more money for 120 rows of pixels, then do it.

16:10 for gaming.even for movies most players have option to extend the image to full screen.i laugh at my friend everytime i go to him couse he choosed a 1080p monitor.its just too wide.16:10 is perfect

16:9 is more universal, and you'll never get any sort of black bars due to incompatibility... Just my $0.02

Okey yours replies stopped me thinking of 1200p monitor.
So I will stick to my current monitor and for TV display will grab just some 1080p IPS monitor.

i used to have a 26" 1920x1200 monitor it was awesome and i do miss it but since going to my 23" ips 3d monitor which is only 1080p, i find it better by far for what i use my pc for.

mainly movies and music and once i get all my new parts back to full on pc gaming again :D

like others have stated if your doing alot of photoshop etc i used to do alot of coversions i.e wedding/birthdays etc videos to blueray i needed the real estate and a 2nd screen at the time. now ive stopped doing this as i was actually losing money not making any... but some do :D

then really the choice is yours 1080p is more than enough for movies and games etc :D

Speaking of 3D monitors. LG has some IPS 3D monitors like this http://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-D2342P-PN-led-monitor

And 2D to 3D conversion is real thing or just marketing?

my acer 2d to 3d conversion works quite well tbh but ive only treid it with movies and a few older games basicly ones that will play on my 7900gtx cod4/assasins creed 1&2+brotherhood and battlefeild 2 :D

i wouldnt say its perfect like proper 3d games and movies also i have to use real3d glasses which are passive :-/

Me too. They cost more to make though so most just release 1080p panels now.

Shame because I used to make graphical layouts for an emulator on a 1600x1200 CRT monitor and now when I play them the bottom is missing
