I have all the gubbins to put together a spare rig, all except for the cpu. The motherboard is an Asus P8Z77-lx. I only need to be able to do basic day to day stuff, no gaming, it is mainly for when my rig is down. Which seems to be a lot lately, but when my loop is finished that's it. But it would still be nice to have something other than this poxy laptop.

I don't want to spend much money, as I haven't got any.And to top it off, I'm now jobless, my contract ended yesterday, which came as shock, and to top it off, because of the company going under, really badly, there is no pay out. Me and 70 more will be lucky to get paid what we are owed. So it need sto be cheep, and reliable. Cheers guys.

Sorry for your recent loss of work , hopefully you can find another job soon.
Keep your chin up , things will get better.
Maybe someone here on the forums has a good cpu they can sell you cheap.

Cheers mate, I've got a few options. I'll get the paint brush back out again if need be. I'm a painter and decorator, by trade, but haven't done it for years.

If you're not gaming a Celeron G530 would be more than enough.

for a quick 1155 solution the celeron or i3 on the sandy side. I bought an i3 BNIB
for $65 for board-testing.
