Hello, i collected some parts to build a PC to play BF4 on Low/Medium settings with an avg frame rate of 50fps. This is purely for a bit of fun. I am going to pass this on to my nephew to get him onto the PC gaming scene.

The parts i am using:

Samsung 22" Monitor 1680x1050 - £20
Plait 9800 GTX + - £12.50P
Asus P5Q PRO 775 Mobo + 4gb ddr2 - £20
Q6600 CPU Quad Core inc. CPU fan heatsink - £20
Case and 500w PSU inc. DVDrw - £15

I know these are some pretty old skoooool parts lol but im really excited to see the results.

What kind of FPS would i be looking at? i tried a 9800 GX2 on my 1090t CPU which gave me over 60fps.

Build pics coming shortly :D

That mobo, CPU and amount of RAM was exactly what I had for my first own built PC in 2010 :)

That is a pretty good bargain build for £100 though, Q6600s still hold their own and generally overclock pretty well. I was able to get 3.4ghz out of mine with that same mobo at 1.26v and the FSB set to 333 and RAM running at 800mhz. All on a Intel stock fan, max temps were around 75c if I recall correctly.

the cpu should be kinda ok, the gpu not so much. considering bf4 rapes two generation old gpu's, I'd guess it completely obliterates a card that is what? 8 generations old?

I think i will do some light overclocking :P

As for the first comment 4fps, i think more like 40fps.

I will have this all hooked up tonight and post some results.

Would i be able to get this overclock? I have a aftermarket Freezer Pro cpu cooler for the CPU.

It all comes down to how good your CPU is, if you get a good overclocker you should get that easily. You should be able to push yours a bit further with a Freezer Pro, ~80c is the max safe temp for a Q6600 so the Intel cooler is no good for anything higher than what I got. From what I remember reading back in the Q6600 times people were getting around 3.7ghz with a Freezer Pro.

A good Q6600 like a G0 Slacr will do 4ghz without even breaking a sweat.

I reckon you'll be around 30fps with that setup

As for 'raping' 2 generation old cards, my 580s are 'raping' it, thanks ;)

I've seen 8800GT's running at around 20/25fps with dual cores, min settings.
I'd be thinking in the 40/50fps avg range for you on minimum settings, but don't think it'll be a pleasant experience... it won't :P

I doubt you'll even touch 30fps. My old 560ti barely managed to get a stable 60 on low @ 1080, it dipped well under 30 at times.

I can bet that a 9800 will dip to single figures and peak not much higher. Good luck, but I think you are being ambitious.

Have to agree with Pexon. My 6870 struggles to stay at 60 on medium/1080p.

This is an interesting build, certainly a blast from the past.

I'd expect a decreased frame rate moving from 1090t to a q6600, can't tell You how much though. If you can over clock the CPU a little it will help.

I look forward to seeing how this performs

Ok I have some videos!

Some pics also.

Will be uploading very shortly.

The results I have at the moment are with stock everything.

I have yet to install the Arctic Pro Freezer 7 for a little overclock along with 4 sticks of 2GB ram.

Would would you guys recommend, 2 x 2gb Ballistix ram that I can overclock slightly or 4 sticks of basic 2gb ram? which would give me a total of 8GB.

BF4 likes RAM so i'd go with 8gb.

That's pretty good performance for the specs, will be interesting to see if overclocking adds any extra performance.

Well 8 gigs has now gone in, I am just downloading BETA drivers to see if that helps. Also just trying to get some info on how to overclock this guided by youtube.

I think I can squeeze a few more frames :)

Plays very smooth no lag what so ever very very playable.

I have new results using 8 Gb and new Beta drivers lol

It actually plays better, and It could just be my eyes but the graphics look a lot better too lol and even more smoother than before.

BF4 is liking the extra ram.

Also will throw my hard drive with Win7 installed and see if that makes any difference, hope it does not a fan of win8.

Now time for the overclock. I will be back lol.

Beta Drivers and 8GB this time - I think it plays a lot better. Don't forget to select 480p :D
