TTL's 40TB Server Build

Ive been planning this for so long originally it was going to have a Z77 board in it! So I really do need to get my back end in gear and get this little puppy started!

Fractal R5
Asus Z97 Deluxe
i3 4130T
8GB White HyperX Fury
8GB Red HyperX Fury
Kingston 100GB 50E Enterprise SSD
Noctua NH-L12 CPU Cooler
Adaptec 81605ZQ Raid Card

So this being mine its not going to be a simple server made from old bits, Ive spend £1k just on drives for this (hides from the men in white coats) and I chose this raid card also knowing that I would have to put some kind of custom cooling on it!

If you watch the video Im also looking for some help coming up with a funky logo for this which could land the designer some freebies and get to see their work being used in the videos for this too.

I need to work out and decide on:
- how to cool the raid card
- what PSU & cables to use
- hard drive cage layout
- what fans to use
- and probably a lot else besides this Ive not thought of

Interested to see how this turns out.

I would be tempted to go with the passive silverstone PSU, although the leadex is going to fit the colour scheme a lot better.
It would be cool to see some custom cables on the Leadex too, see if Pexon can get wires with transparant insulation you might get a fibre optic effect, maybe with a translucent braid and power connectors? (always wanted to see that since the first time I saw the superflowers)

Those heatsinks on the Z97 deluxe would look awesome anodized in red.
Cooling the raid card, I think the AIO would work nicely, maybe run it without a fan see how it peforms?

I think RED40 is a great name, definately go for a cleaner design though (like RED with white fill red outline on top of a large 40 with solid infill)

That's all I can think of for now, will add more if I think of anything, might even have a play in PhotoShop.

See how fast your pal can get the leadex cables done; if you can get them quick, go for that.
Not so sure about the name; or maybe your logo put me off :P Maybe name it after Coeus - A titan from Greek mythology; he had sommet to do with knowledge.

Go with the Leadex with Pexon cables and for a name R5-40 sounds a bit like a Droid from StarWars so it is written R5-4T

I would go with the Seasonic Snow Silent. I know the wattage is overkill, but it looks awesome.

For a theme, I would call it RED 4-D and off set it like the Jaws 3-D poster since you use it as a PLEX server. I tried making that up, but GIMP is not cooperating with me today.

I was going to crap on the XFX unit until you said it was a Seasonic. :) I'd go with that + Pexon HDD cables, since you can get them easier (or already have them). You still have some black/white accents in addition to the red anyway, so I don't think the white PS brings *that* much to the table. I vote convenience on that one.

For the raid card, I think option #2 is nicer. That Acelero sounds like a bad idea. It's big, bulky, and ugly. Wouldn't opt for that personally. As you said in the video, heat isn't a major concern anyway, so I'd avoid the big ugly option. Just my $0.02CDN, which sure isn't much considering the sorry state of our dollar these days!

I would go for the Leadex one, love its industrial look and white leds :p, would fit nicely in the R5 in my opinion.

Concerning the logo, here's some quick draws, hope you'll find some inspiration Tom.

Can't wait to see more of what you're going to do with your build *fap*

Would the GFX cooler for the RAID card make it easy to connect the SATA cables to the SATA ports on the card ?

The White power supply fits the best in the rig, but the red cables would make it look way nicer.

Take this from someone who have been doing photoshop for some years now... if you have Zero skills in Photoshop, you then put the rest of us to shame when we first started out lol :p ;)
Really nice one for a first timer in the program... it ain't an easy program! :)

Opinions?

It won't let me use image tags as I get this error.
"Please do not use remote images, upload them instead."

It's a shame you're not using the nanoxia grid case, I actually really really like that case.

Great vid Tom!
I need to work out and decide on:
- hard drive cage layout

What sprung to my mind was removing the 5,25" bays and dremel off the top/bottom of the other drive bay and stick it on top the first one. So you'd get a single tower with 10 slots in it.

Good luck with your rig mate

ROFL, sorry Guv I couldn't resist. I'll get the sketchpad out and have a more serious think later, although it's still a pretty slick idea :D

Red Servant!

I'd go with the Leadex White PSU, if Pexon(?) can make it in time of course. Especially the single sata power cable sounds awesome, totally OC3D style :) A white Fractal Design PSU would've looked great too, but after looking it up, I saw they don't have fully modular models, so I see why you're not going for one of those.

Personally I think the AIO for the raid card wouldn't look nearly as good as the (passive) GPU cooler, so I'd definitely go for the latter. Might even be pretty easy to get the black shroud painted or something (I couldn't tell from the video) :)

I thought of the name Red Servant, a fun play with the word server I think. I also made a logo to go with it. I hope you like it! Please let me (and the rest of us) know if this is something you're looking for, especially if something more graphical and with less type would be better.

I can't remotely link my image for some reason (probably me being stupid), and attachments are also disabled. So I guess I'll just post this link here:

I hope you like it, man.
