Been given a circa £1000 budget gaming build for a mate.. Haven't done a build in a while, I had literally 10 minutes at lunch and came up with this..

Thoughts?

looks fine to me, all colour matched and nothing overkill :)
Aye only the RM sticks out, but it'l be behind the back, so not an issue.

if it were me, ill probably get a 650W psu and get a better HDD, like a Black, or at least a Blue

Thought about it, but took the cost up little too high, I think a 550w should be ample (get it) for this right?

Looks pretty sweet to me SuB nice balance throughout.

Cheers :)

Anymore for anymore? I haven't missed anything, or missed a deal on a gpu? didn't wanna get a stock 290 due to bad cooler so stuck with colour co-ordinated MSI one.

If it was me I'd get a cheaper case so you could a better HDD (a Silverstone RL04 would give you tonnes of spare cash to do fancy things) . Otherwise its a good 'un.

Maybe drop the RAM to 8GB and up the SSD to 250GB?

You can also get the Fractal R4 with or without a window for less

are both of those h100 compatible?

what's so grand about wd blue's ? (i've been out of hard drive land for getting on a year now)

They spin at 7200RPM rather than the 5400 RPM Greens do.

Also, you could go for an Arc Mini R2 which is only 60 quid.

Then drop to a 2x4GB kit of RAM and he can easily upgrade it later, without going too much over budget right now.

What's the point of the 'k'? He's not going to do any overclocking if you have to choose his parts.
1TB HDDs really aren't worth it anymore, the 2TB version is like 10 quid more, maybe even less.
4GB on the GPU seem a bit wasted as well.
/edit
Just checked my PCPP account for saved part lists and saw that i only have a $1100 build. Need to update my lists.

+1 On the Arc Mini R2. I love that case!

Yeah don't get the WD Greens for main storage. They are good for backups and that's about it.

Used my Green for two years...i'm just fine with it. You don't need 7200rpm for opening .doc files and listening to music, folks.

I use my main storage for game installs and a fair few people do to. Head parking on the greens just make them unusable.

Some people also move their page file to their main storage in which case a WD green would be horrendous.

I use two greens for all my backup's and download drives and they are fantastic I think it's a solid build for the money

Hmm, in retrospect I guess you're right. Kinda forgot I have double the SSD space to put games and programs on. If he can get away with putting his current programs and games on his SSD and just leave his HDD for documents, photos, music etc. I don't see why the Green would be a big problem. Though with the Blues not being much more it's probably not worth the hassle either way.
