Computer turns on but screen is blank.

um hey guys i was wondering, could my bios be corrupted because whenever my computer turns off abruptly it sit at that american megatrend screen, telling me "overclocked failed". press f2 to load default and f1 to run bios. In this scenario my computer would have been sitting on this screen when it got turned off second time. could this mess or curropt the bios??

no its still blank screen (although monitor detects something is connected), what i said above usually happens when my computer is turned off without proper shutdown. so when my computer got turned off second time it must have been on that megatrend screen asking if i wanna put in default values or run bios.

so could that might have corrupted the bios. i can get a new bios chip from Netherlands for £9.

You can't corrupt the bios like that unless your fan short corrupted it..

A bios chip is ROM (read only memory) and the only thing that can write to it is a bios update. Case in point, I ran a bios update recently that failed and bricked my board.

hmmmm i think it is worth a shot because my rig is still very capable. thanks :), 1 question though does it matter which way i put my bios chip? because i can put my current one either way

Yes it matters.

Im having this exact problem on my little brothers computer it was working and then he turned it off and came back later and there was no signal to the screen, so thought it was a loose wire, checked that nothing, thought it was the monitor checked that too, then the GPU but i put that GPU into my rig and it worked fine so i put another GPU into the offending rig still no signal, not sure whats happened...

hey guys there was no difference when i put the new bios chip in, so i reckon i ca buy a new motherboard my budget is no-more than £120, is it possible someone in forum might be selling it because i am having a hard time finding a good one from a decent supplier.

hey i have got my hands on a rampage 2 extreme i put my cpu in and same problem. everything starts up but nothing is displayed. it could be the board but after a bit of running i checked that vrms are hot so was my cpu? any ideas is it possible to kill a cpu these days?
