Your sig mate! I have seen it in a poster at my school, Its class!

Arvin, when do you plan on buying this build?

Hey guys, another quick question, I've just realised my PSU is 1000w, do you think that will be enough to power the rig I've been talking about in this post?

Thanks again

Arvind!

Hi guys, was thinking about what you were all saying about the motherboards and so I started looking at the differences between:

Asus P9X79 Pro vs Rampage IV Extreme (original choice)

And apart from an extra PCI slot which allows 4way SLI, which to be honest I don't see myself using (I probably wont use 3 way SLI but definitely 2way at some point), and 2 extra usb ports I don't see much difference.

All the main points seem to be exactly the same, teh amount of RAM that it can take, the amount of sata connections, 3 way sli or crossfire, same cpu etc???

Am I missing anything here, and it's £100 cheaper?

Thanks

Arvind!

The Rampage IV Extreme is really for people who want to "extreme" overclock using Liquid Nitrogen/Helium/other extreme methods. For a standard user, there is no point getting the Rampage IV, since most of the features won't go into use.

The specs are pretty much the same, but the small additions for extreme overclockers and the ROG branding is why the price is so high.

Will I still be able to overclock the cpu (Intel Core i7-3930K 3.20GHz) on this motherboard?

If so what kind of speeds would I be able to reach on the Asus P9X79 Pro, would I be able to hit 4-4.5GHz

Just not to the same extent as the rampage right?

Arvind!

It depends on your chip mate. If you have a good chip you should easily be able to hit 4.5GHz. This is known as the silicone lottery as some people end up with really bad chips, some with decent chips and others with amazing chips.

Overclocking wise, I'm not sure what the difference would be on traditional means of cooling (air or water), but many people say that there is usually very little or no difference between the overclocking potential of different boards.

If I get lucky with the silicon lottery, do you think I would be able to overclock to 4.5GHz on the P9X79 Pro motherboard using the NH-D14 cpu cooler?

Thanks

Arvind!

Great stuff, then I think i'll save myself £100 and go for the P9X79 Pro

How does this RAM look, was thinking of going for 2 x 16GB:

Thanks guys, and MERRY CHRISTMAS, I'm sure i'll be back with more questions soon
