OC3D Chat Box

Would the guv (tinytomlogan) be angry if i made unofficial small talk/chit chat chat box (not linked to oc3d in any way) and pasted link into my sig?

I'm glad you cleared up the confusion of who The Guv was ;) An external site might be a different matter if that's what you mean, I'd wait to see what mods/admins would say to that, but I'd imagine it wouldn't be allowed to have a link to it. Other than that if it was organised between members and not linked there's no reason why not I suppose. It's probably a bit more hassle than an on-site feature though, and I'm not sure if people would use it as much.

It's a shame we don't still have an OC3D TeamSpeak running really. Might be worth looking into again in the future.

Definitely need to set up teamspeak. Linustechtips forum and overclock.net both have it

When I first joined a few members were on TeamSpeak but I don't have it installed now so has it died then?

A Teamspeak channel would be great for members gaming together, but I can't imagine putting a headset on to browse the forums :)

Moderating it won't be that much of an issue. We pretty much always have a mod online these days so if things did go astray it can easily be sorted, and of course you have the report button/ability to PM a mod if you do think something goes a bit far.

have fun with twice the traffic every day :D

Especially when your mic is permanently on and all you can hear is peeps typing on mechanical keyboards.

Can you not set it so the mic is only on when you press a button? I think that's what I used to do when I used to raid on WoW.

True but some may have theirs permanently on. On teamspeak my nickname really shines. I am a really quiet person

I thought the same when we used to have it. I thought the only point really was for comms in game. However, it then moved on to finishing gaming and just staying on for a chat after, and then even just people going on to have a chat.

Traffic's traffic. Nothing wrong with that really. If it gets the forums more popular and active that's what we want, surely? I think you're probably overestimating just how much this new thread or whatever would be used though lol.

We used to have it for the gaming side of things last summer. That capitulated soon after you joined and we've just not looked into anything like that again since.

I moved from tomshardware forums to OC3D mainly because of the great community OC3D has by far. Teamspeak or chat box would make it even better.
had over 300 anwsers and 34 best solutions, an article etc, but it became really boring on tom's hardware

I don't know of a better community than ours :)

imagine there are ~200 posts a day in that thread with just people chit-chatting, you will have to read all of it to ensure everybody behaves.
200 posts is of course quite a high estimation, but it's possible.

lol, we couldn't disallow a thread because it would be too popular.

If someone could make a thread that got 200 posts a day consistently I'd be amazed.

Anyway, members on here are responsible enough to behave themselves, and if certain people didn't, the other responsible members would quickly make us aware of it if we hadn't already seen it. As long as basic ground rules are clearly displayed, there's no issue with it.

We all pretty much adhere to basic forum etiquette & every now and again there of cause are the odd exceptions that just need a bit of gentle polite guidance to the usual no no's (thread hijacking, double posting, swearing).

I have seen many "chit chat" threads on other forums get out of hand and just turn into a riot especially when someone hits on the inevitable Intel/AMD argy bargy and then the trolling starts which always gets ugly... which WILL end in someone saying a little too much and getting banned.

I don't think a general "Chit chat" thread is really needed here as there are many many threads in the General Forum anyway which pretty much cover most possible topics from "Last purchase", "Last thing you ate", "FML", "post your desktop"... they go on and on.
