Zalman ZM-WB3 GOLD

Well I am on a mission to eradicate the noise from my xPC and to do this I decided to shift to watercooling.

But before I buy the ZM-WB3 I have a few question:

1/ Is the backplate that comes with the WC unit really necessary or can I just forget about it. Why you may ask? well my shuttle mobo is almost against the bottom of the case and there is no space for anything under and moreover the 775 socket screw are part of the case so I cannot add anything in between. So if I don't use the backplate will I have problem?

2/ I am planning to have an external WC system and I am heading toward the Zalman Reserator 1 Plus package which contains the ZM-WB3. I have read some reviews and they are fairly good. What do you think? Is it a good choice? I want a passive cooling without fan and apparently the Reserator 1 Plus is the completly silent.

If you're looking for complete silence I suppose the Reserator would be a good choice... Just don't expect to see any amount of decent cooling come from that unit (which we hope you wouldn't expect from a passive wc loop using measly 1/4" tubing). It should keep a P4 within operating temps however.

And I do believe you need that backplate, not 100% on that though.

Do you think I will be able to get similar or even bellow than my actual temps?

CPU 42C idle, GPU 46/47C idle and Chipset 37C idle? That's what I have with my fan setting at the moment so if I get those temps without noise I will be satisfied.

Yeah I don't imagine the temps on a fanless water setup would be too far off from that.
