Any recommendations on a Z77 board for my first build? I was looking at the intel DZ77RE-75K Extreme ATX with 1155 for the i7 2700K. But was wondering what Z77 board would be best for a persons first build>>>?
You'll find that a lot of folks around here will recommend the MSI GD55 or GD65, depending on your needs and budget. There isn't a huge amount of difference between the two, but the GD65 does have two extra SATAIII ports for a total of 4. I have the GD55, and I'm very happy with it.
Any particular reason that you're going i7 Sandy?
(Also, you might want to get a mod to transfer this thread to the "New Build Advice" sub-forum.)
But didn't you say in another thread that you're not planning to OC? At stock speeds, Ivy runs cooler than Sandy and is more power-efficient. It's only when you try to heavily over-volt that Ivy gets really hot.
Also, if the rig is mostly for gaming, buying a chip with hyperthreading is a waste of money. An i5 would be just as good. Same thing with the ram in your other thread. 1600mhz Dominator would cut the cost almost in half and you'd never notice the difference.
ok, i did not know that.. so an ivy i5..? with 1600mhz is the best for not overclocking, but i might do some OC in the future, thats why i thought about the i7 2700..? i want to build something that has the potential for me to do some future OC and stuff, once i get familiar with everything.

i7 don't oc better than i5 the only difference is ht. Why do you want a sandybridge cpu, get a ivybridge. Just make sure you get a k series, this is all you need for oc.
Just watch a few oc guides on youtube and i think a forum member did a very good z77 oc guide a while ago, it's very easy on the newer platforms
thanks dude, i was gonna ask about the k series, cause the only thing i seen different on intels website was the k series had a couple other features..? the k series is always the best performer then..? and do you you know the difference between 2 or the same RAM but one is Tested Latency8-8-8-24
SPD Latency 9-9-9-24, and the other is 8-8-8-24 for both..?
Depends on budget, you can get a MSI Z68A-GD55 for around $100 or less. Works well and is at a budget for Z77 i would say get the MSI Z77A-G55 or GD55 NO LESS. Any Ivy mobo between $120-$150 is a good bet.

The k series proccessors have an unlocked multiplier which is what allows for overclocking on the z77 platform. so if you want to overclock in the future make sure to get a k series.
