Oky Im a IT engineer ..

Been into so called IT since i was a child so about 35 years of IT experance behind me as such.

there is 1 thing i hear a lot and thats "you dont look like a Geek" ...

I very rarely meet a Typical geek with long hair and glasses and who talks jibberish ..

So are geeks that typical ... in any way.

The biggest geeks out of all of us never look like geeks so why is that still the percetion of people ...

but to answer your question most people are so narrow minded that their views on everyday stuff are so stereo typical!!

Ha same goes for me, seeing as my image doesn't portray my hobbies and 'talent'(lol) I'm nearly always a shocker. I am however known to my mates to be the IT geek, they have no idea how I know all this, and how I can come up with a solution without thinking . I'm honestly sick of people thinking I'm the opposite of what you're mentioning Mayhem. People seem to portray my image as a Chav or ASBO , I think I'm a good guy tbh, I did have long hair, listen to Death Metal and such BUT I had to cut my hair. I was going to get excluded from school for not cutting my hair so parents made me cut it. I do however still like some of the same music, people view me differently though, like I'm a different person.

Exactly , just because of the clothes I wore compared to now, apparently now I'm a different person. I'm not, I started programming then and still do it to this day. I still listen to HIM, I still play the same games, I still have the same mates and I still have the same girlfriend.

I think that it may have been an old image that no one now looks like, yet it still stays?

Nah I mean HIM is pretty much the band that I listen to from when I used to only listen to Metal and such. HIM is classed as Love Metal? lol.

Yeah, got that a few times aswell, especially from blokes on site. (i'm a geek who wears a hardhat, puts up heavy stuff and shouts and swears alot when something goes wrong).

Nowadays though I generally avoid letting anyone know of my computer related hobbies... i've got bored of being the go-to troubleshooting guy for anything remotely tech related. :/

yeah im not the 'stereotypical' lookin geek either but i would love to not have anyone know about me knowing computers but ya do a fav for one person and it spreads like a wildfire but it does help when money is tight and u can get a few bob for it
