Hey guys, don't know if anybody is gonna read this but I'm a newbie, and I know a bit about computers but not as much as you guys ^^. I have built my own rig (It's low end) because I thought it would be fun. Turns out I've really enjoyed doing that, so why not join the forums, right?

SO, I have a really old low end pc, and I'm planning to upgrade it.
I was thinking of getting an hd 7970 on amazon for like 360 euros (290 quid).
But I still have a very bad CPU/mobo.
AMD Phenom II X4 B50 and an ASUS M4a78LT-M ( yea I know it sucks )
I'm just saying, if I bought an hd 7970 (stock) would I be a serious bottleneck? I mean, can I run battlefield @ 1920x1080 at 60 fps?
Because I heard from Linus (LinusTechTips) that he recommended buying a beast graphics card and then upgrade you CPU/mobo,... later instead of buying an "average" rig immediatley.
So, If anybody could help me I would appreciate it

Thanks!

Welcome to oc3d :)

I would stay away from the 660ti if I was you, its not good enough for the price, maybe have a look at getting a 7950 and overclocking the nuts off it?

The cards are in a totally different price and performance range, the 660ti vs. 7970, so I would without a doubt go with the 7970. You should be able to run BF3 with everything on max with that rig at 1920x1080, I belive it can do it at 2640 x 1440 aswell but I'm not completely sure.

It probably would be worth upgrading cpu and mobo as the cpu would bottleneck that card. Chances are no you probably wont be able to run bf3 on those settings like that, as i said cpu would bottleneck

With that Mobo and Cpu you will not have any kind of bottleneck with 7970 ; and if there is some, you will hardly notice!
welcome and enjoy the stay!
