Xsessive

Thanks everyone for your comments. Glad I can put something together for everyone to read and see, but most of all, enjoy.

Sunday March 13th, 3:00 PM:

UUUUUGH! still tired, but excited. Headed down to the lab to find everything still dry and in working order. Must have done it right... put enough time in, it better be right. I know I should let it sit for 24 hours to leak check, but I can't contain myself anymore. I have to hook this thing up and see see how it's doing.

Pulled all the paper out and checked it over real well to make sure there is no colored spots on it. Lookin Good

Old power supply made useful for leak checking.

Powered up and switched on! IT STILL WORKS!!

5:00 PM:

Everything is up and running and loving the temps. The GTX 480 is not getting as hot, at all. With it under full load and overclocked, as much as my meager knowledge of overclocking will let me, it's still cooler than at idle with stock clocks and the air cooler. 900mhz on the core and stable with as many volts as it will let me give it... not much adjustment with this card and afterburner. Will look up some info later to see if I can get it higher.

60C on a GTX 480 under full load on furmark? very nice. No AA, but you get the point.

6:00 PM:

My body is telling me to go back to bed, but have to try a bit of overclocking on the CPU. 4.2ghz on the CPU is great now, doesn't get above 70C, seems hot but its not, but this 920 is a cooker 70 is about 25 degrees cooler than it was on the H50 under load, kind of surprised I haven't cooked this CPU yet. Could get it to boot and load windows at 4.5 but cant seem to find the stable area, will look into it later. Leave it at 4.2 for now and let it fold a bit, hit up some games later. For now... need to do some laundry and get some rest.

So that pretty much brings everything up to date. About to head back down to the lab and try to get the last of the painting done on the side panels... Making a decent effort to make them really bring out the color. Also have to finish the window, but one piece needs to go to the machine shop to get some custom designs worked into the acrylic. Will update as it gets done. Panels should be done by tomorrow night, but not sure when I will be getting the last piece for the window, trying to get it worked out for a less than costly price, but nothing is ever cheap. oh yeah, also waiting on some lights for it, hope they get here soon.

Lol karlos your pic seems very appropriate for the finger prints comment.

Too right

Forgive me for asking but one thing somehow eludes me.. Why strip the whole black case down to paint it.. black?

And now of course you're going to say "Because I wanted to" but really, just for the exercise and fun of it?

The pics dont seem to show it off but its not just black is it?

Is the greeny sparkle on the outside too? Was it a colour or just a clear with pearl in?

I didnt see any prep photos so idk.

nah, it's not black, its a super dark green with metal and gold flake, BMW color code. Got it from the auto shop. I left the Mesh panels and the large portions of the plastic parts the original black, I did paint the smaller stuff that you can take out of the front and top.

These are the only things plastic that got painted.

*primer*

The finger prints on the front of the case in the picture are just smudges from when I was putting everything back together. After I get everything complete I will have a nice little photo session in a room with good light so you can really see the paint. The few parts that I left black are mostly for contrast purposes because the paint is so dark and cause I liked it that way. Once I get the lighting in the case the color difference should be more visible as well.

how did you find painting the plastic I was gonna do some painting of my CM 690 2 adv but it has a really large plastic trim thats puttin me off should i be able to treat it the same as metal or what?

Looks great m8, I thought it was black to, until I read Toms comment and then went back and looked a bit closer at the pic's, now I see LOL

Great build log, love reading these things...... Well done

The plastic was not too bad to paint, I made sure to sand and clean it well. also used a good primer to hold it on the plastic. The larger pieces look really good, but there is one small piece that needed some extra work to get the paint nice and even.

Thanks Hayley, I really like building them. Kind of thinking about selling this one so i can build another

Hmm, pics really don't do it justice then. Next time get British Racing Green (obvious enough?) and that is sure to leave a few people startled

Im being extremely stupid asking a question im 90% sure of the answer ... but

did you have to mod the top to fit the 360mm rad??

sorry if you already wrote about it, thanks alot

Well, yes and no. the mounting holes that are in the case already for a 240 Rad worked for the primary mounting position. I did drill one more hole for a mounting screw towards the front, and it is actually hidden under the Power and Reset switches. For better airflow through and out of the rad there is a small section on the top that you can cut out, but I chose not to. There is also plenty of room under the top bezel for two fans to pull, but the fan controller and panel connectors interfere with mounting a third fan on the top.

Update: Almost all of the work is done other than a design piece that I probably will not be getting back from the machine shop until next week sometime. I will take some finish up photos and finish the log next week. Right now I have to get ready to go to see Korn, Disturbed, Sevendust, and In This Moment. Time to see if I can rock my face off.

wait...the phantom fits a 240mm on the top w/out mods?

hice hyper flex pb mask. reminds me of my days when i use to play for a team.

yeah PB is great fun. I never got too serious with it though, just kind of. Was fun when we were doing tournaments and everything.

Anyway. Thought i would drop a quick update out there. The concert was amazing on friday, but I woke up sick as hell on Saturday and have been just kind of laying around like that since then. Worked today, but that was no good. So I will try to post the finish up to the log tomorrow, then I Will get some nice glamor shots for the rig gallery
