XMS San Diego Overclock Results

I am in the market for this AMD san diego 4000 and I would like to know exact settings and hardware specs to fully take advantage of this processor please. Things like best Motherboard for it.. and ram .. Thanks. I also do not know how to overclock an AMD to get the full potential.. any specifications as far as bios settings would be helpful. Thanks. btw nice overclock.

There's quite a few variables when it comes to getting the right setup, and some of them aren't within your power to control such as getting a CPU from a good batch with good stepping. DFI should be the first place you look when it comes to looking for a mobo, any one of the NF4 series DFI boards rock and won't dissapoint. As far as ram, only two ways to go... ram with TCCD or ram with BH5/UTT IC's. PSU's are very very important, a few recommended PSU's would be OCZ PowerStream's, PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool's, AC Ryan Power's, or Enermax PSU's (happy now Nick? lol).

Those are going to be the most key components for a good healthy overclock. Make sure to get yourself a good hsf as well! I recommend anything from Thermalright.

just to point out on the RAM...

OCZ platnum rev 2 has TCCD chips (usually) and also some geil ram i think. OCZ is one of (if no the) best way to go for RAM anyway. and TCCD/BH5 chips are known to be able to get to 300FSB/HTT with a lot of voltage (which only DFI boards can give).

My recommendation...

San Diego 4000+

DFI NF4 Ultra-D

OCZ Platnum Rev 2 RAM

OCZ Powerstream 480w (do they come in 480? i cant remember)

the rest is compeltely up to you. where are you from and we can supply some links for you.

I think Powerstreams come in that flavour maybe....but maybe a 520 would be a safer bet....

And yes I like your thinking Dave!! :)

Congrats on your OC.

I'm _really_ itching to push the button on a San Diego but I can't decide if I should wait for a few more weeks on the 4400 X2. Not that much more $$.

Wonder if it will overclock as well?

Yeah get an X2 - be the first on SX and then OC the nuts off it and see how far you can get! :wavey: :worship:

My current main system:

ABIT NF7-S

AMD XP-M 2400+ (running at 2.4 on water)

Corsair XMS PC3200

ATI x800Pro w/16 Pipes unlocked

I've been working on my new main system:

MSI K8N Neo2 Rev. 1

AMD A64 3000+ Winnie (not running ATM)

Corsair PC4400

ATI x800XT PE

I just got all my watercooling parts together for my new main system and turned it on for the first time this week. Bad move. Should have tested the MB and Proc sooner. After a lot of futzing trying to figure out a stability issue (system would hang on processor init occasionally) the system now refuses to show video on boot.

I'm ordering a replacement sent overnight today. I think I'm going to go with a Gigabyte GA-K8NS. (EDIT: Notice the $500 AGP card in my new system specs, that's why I'm looking for an AGP based replacement)

I've already got a buyer for 2 of my other systems so as soon as Crossfire parts come out, I'm gonna pounce. I'm also gonna wait for the X2 like y'all say.

Course I'mma newb so don't expect much but at least I'm at the right place to get schooled, and helped (I don't think either of those are words). :)

BTW, here's my new CPU block, ain't she purdy:

Luch looking block ya got there mate!!

As far as boards go...the Gigabyte won't OC too much really. Maybe go for an EpoX board instead?

Better options and still goes with AGP.

Yeah X2 + Crossfire= :worship: ownage.

Put that lot with a ULI motherboard (ATi's one is a bit unstable so I've heard), then you should be rocking!! :wavey:
