hi guy friend is giving me his XFX Double D HD 7970 Black Edition FX-797A-TDBC
and i'm not sure what i should do with it?

1) keep my two HD 7870 XT's and sell the card
2) sell the two HD 7870 XT's and get a 2nd one of the same card (if i can find it)
3) sell all 3 cards and get a R9 290?

I really don't know what i should do...

if i sell the XFX HD 7970 (FX-797A-TDBC) how much are they worth now?

a 290 is roughly equal to a R9 290, but without any possible crossfire head aches. then there are the after-market cards coming soon.

if you can sell your 7870 XTs the best option is dual 7970's. most performance of all the options.

yeah but what if i can't get the same card i'm a bit ocd when if come's to look's, so i have to find the same one or sell it off.

anyone got a XFX HD 7970 FX-797A-TDBC? if so are they any good for overclocking?

I imagine they will be difficult to find, given its not just an older card but a specific older card.

here is one from aria, it's xfx, same cooler but different batch. £257.99

wow still selling for over £250, might as well sell all 3 and get a R9 290 and a waterblock

my friend has only had it since April and he paid over £350 from aria...

Do you feel the need to upgrade?

Two 7870XT's should get you around £220-250 and a 7970 is what, £220-250 new, so say around 200.

Top Estimates is £450 ish.......Grab a R9 290x and be done with it.

7970s are going for silly money at the moment on ebay as all the miners are buying them all up makeing them expencive...

Pretty bad advice imo. There is literally no reason to buy an R9 290X. Just get a 290 instead.

I advise going dual 7970's or for an R9 290

This is what happens when I use my phone to post replies.......darn predicted text...... I only typed '290' on my phone, the rest autofilled :(

regardless though, if you have the money to, you may as well.

it's the R 7970 so wouldn't that mean that it's reference pcb?

i have a 360mm and a 240mm both 60mm thick might as well add the gpu to the loop :P

There was an issue a while back when they claimed they were reference but they actually aren't :l. Seriously knowing XFX it probably isn't.

Neither have I mate, just make sure its got a reference PCB. I guess you can compare it with one on the internet. I think the "reference" XFX have odd mounting points.

what do i need to look for mate never watercooled a gpu before :o

first you need to be sure you have a GPU which has a compatible waterblock. (mostly only reference GPUs/ PCbs)

full cover water blocks are preferable to universal blocks, I currently run universal blocks due the fact my current GPUs don't have a compatible water block.
