XFX black or Gigabyte (7970 cards)?

I've heard that the XFX Black edition is hotter then the ref design cards so I would grab the Gigabyte version. I have the same cooler on my 580 and it is very quiet.

Gigabyte, I don't known why anyone would take the XFX other than for looks.

thanks for the feed back

you see its a good job i asked i was looking at the gigabyte but the xfx does look nice.

the reason i was split between the two was becuase of that Ghost & Hydrocell thing on the xfx and tbh i know very little about these things i cant even oc my pc properly

I havnt had any Bother with my XFX

Out of The box im getting 70-90fps (depending on where im looking) on BF3 on Ultra.

It sits around 76c playing BF3 and the fan doesnt go over 39%, i can barely hear it Compared to the old 6 series i had.

Well, on the TTL facbook last night Tom said that he was playing around with a 7970 overclocked to 1300mhz stable on air and that the card was being reviewed next week and i'm guessing it's the Gigabyte Windforce seen as he said he was reviewing it soon in the subscriber vid the other day.

So i'd definitely go for the Gigabyte version if they can clock that high on air (depending on the silicone lottery of cause) because 7970s at 1300mhz+ are closing in on 590/6990 performance.

I've heard that the XFX 7970s are not the best , one friend at least has one that wont overclock really at all and others complaining of the same issue. Now this could just be luck but it would put me off a little.

This May give you an Idea on Temps with the XFX (i have this one http://www.scan.co.uk/products/3gb-...700mhz-gddr5-28nm-gpu-1000mhz-2048-cores-dvi- )

The card is completely Default Out the Box and running with The Auto Fan function in Catalyst Control.

I Played Battlefield For 30 mins exactly on Ultra Settings, everything maxed out.

I reset this before i started playing so the Max Temps Show you what i Hit During Gameplay

I then Let it Cool at Idle for 10 minutes and it dropped to 32c

Overall im Pleased With these Temps, During gameplay when the cards at 40% fan speed its barely noticable and very quiet.

I dont know if this will help you, im just trying to show some stats of what ive got With the XFX for Reference.

Thanks for the info mate! the temps look good

Buy it from Aria. If you have any problems just post a topic on their forums and your issues will get sorted out very quickly. I've seen quite a few people get their issues resolved quickly by going through the Aria forums.

fair enough the only reason i had this concern was beacuse i had read a reveiw where he had waited about 2 months (so he said anyway) before he got anything resolved and for a card this exspensive i dident want that to happen.

but thankyou for clearing that up

hopefuly i wont have any problems with the card anyway

You should have no problems with Aria and if you do their forums are a great place to get any issues resolved. From what I've seen the customer services guys and gals on the Aria Forums are top notch.

Do you have the free Aria Shipping?
