As the titel say , what is is going on whit the xeon to the 1155 socket board?

Will i see any thing whit the use of that cpu vs my i7 ? Can get a E3-1270v2 to very good price, so before going out i will like to hear what you have to say on this.

Can the xeon do OC or is it just that better as it is right out of the box ?

Regards,
Etlar

i7 is better for performance but xeon is more stable and reliable and slightly lower powered and no overclocking because multiplier is locked by intel

Think the xeon E3-1240v2 is the best buy if you really want a 1155 xeon processor, but if its for gaming an oc`ed 3(5-7)70k is a better choise.

The xeon is more powerfull but the I7 is faster.

If you are getting it for that cheap you might as well get the xeon mate and spend the extra on faster ram or an ssd :p

hehe, have 1 240 gb ssd and 1 480 gb ssd ;) The only thing i will need is faster ram ;)

But i was like, is the xeon better then i7, that is what i have right now. But after what i hear from you all. It is not, so why go that way :P

Its not that much worse, it depends what you are using it for. If you do any rendering i would say the xeon is better. Its just that the i7 overclocks really well. You could get some of that patriot 2400Mhz ram that is really cheap at the minute and it would still be cheaper than the i7. If you have a lot of money and do lots of gaming the i7 would be better. Also, dem ssds... :p

hehe, do more gaming then rendering. but is still lost on the cpu vs the xeon :D - But have 1833 mhz in my setup right now :D

LGA1155 Xeons are actually based off the same chips as the i7's, so IPC is near identical. Major difference however is that all Xeons are locked, so you will be stuck at the stock 3.4Ghz clock speed. Because of this, be aware that the 3770k will only be faster if you overclock it.

Xeons also support ECC memory, includes vPro and Trusted Execution technologies too, which means execution errors are rarer. The actual failure rate and average lifespan isn't that much difference to the i7, at least from what I've seen. Also, Xeons do not include an intergrated GPU.

Looking through Intel's specification pages, that seems to be the only differences between the two.
