OK so the upgrade bug is itchin me and I want to make some changes.

Current rig specs:

Gigabyte Z87X-UD5H
Intel 4770K @4.5GHz using 1.275 Vcore
4x4Gb GSkill Snipers 1866
2x 240GB Kingston HyperX 3K's in Raid 0
HIS 7970's in xfire running the GHz bios 1050/1500
Custom water Cooled
Corsair AX860
Corsair 780T

Things set in stone already is swapping the 7970's for a pair of Asus Strix GTX980's.

What has me tossin things about is whether or not to jump into DDR4 with the X99 platform or go with Z97.

X99 thoughts are
Asus Rampage V Extreme (R5E) with a 5930K (memory undecided as of now)

or

Z97 thought
Asus Maximus VII Formula and a 4970K (and most likely upgrade my ram to something faster)

Your thought on either or both platforms??

Get the Z97 and save some money - a 5930k is a bit pointless tbh and the memory costs so much more.

Get the 4790K some 2400mhz memory and a decent cooler to overclock the CPU

lol got the decent cooler already since I'm water cooling fully custom. I'm using swiftechs Apogee HD in white mostly for the look but it'll change most likely with the upgrade to match the red black of the Asus boards.

also thinking future upgrades with the DDR4 route lol

IMHO 5960x and 3000MHz are the only things worth bothing with - if not you dont need the rampage

Gaming wise the 4790K is ample

Rampage was just due to the reviews I've read/watched and color scheme. But sounds like Z97 would be the better option for now.

actually had a change of mind late last night (as my knee once again banged into my 780T that now resides on the floor(I hate cases on the floor)) I'm going MATX so I can get it on the shelf of my computer nook and off the floor. So I'm most likely going with the Maximus Gene Z97. Now to find a good MATX case that will hold suitable rads for it. But that'll be another thread in the case section lol.

Enthoo Evolv tho'

yeah have pretty much decided against it. If any upgrade (besides the GTX 980 Strix which were just ordered 10mins ago lol), I'm still debating going matx. If I do I'll just grab a Z97 board and keep using my 4770K. My issue is finding a decent matx case that will house my water cooling parts mainly decent rads. I know I'm dropping considerable TDP going to 980's over my 7970's so thats a plus.

Yea that's sounds good man, I'm in the middle of doing the same thing, switching from 7950s to 900 series and dropping case size too. Couldn't find a great case so I've been busy modding away to get my loop in a 500r.

going to see about getting a parvum case made for me. I dont think the s 2.0 or s 2.0 extended what do what I want and compare it (cost wise) to maybe a caselabs case. but I'm betting the parvum will be the lighter option

another thought is to try and get the shelf I want this sitting on stronger and wider to support my Air 540 case and possibly move things back into it. This is an apartment so not alot I can do to make major modifications lol cause I'll have to return it to the state it was in before I moved in.

cool good to know but wow the cost lol but I'd be looking at close to the same with a parvum case as well

Not only the cost, but the time...I ordered an S3 on January 10. Still nothing new and no estimated ship date. I was expecting a long wait, but this is killing me.

to be fair.. it is going from the west side of the US all the way to England. That ain't close:p

Howver S_I_N.. you living in TX should mean the shipment from CA to you should not be as nearly as long as hmmblah. Would save quite a bit on time and S&H.

As far as I was aware Michigan is still in the US.
