Background info:

i7 3820 @ 4.625ghz 1.304v

Asus x79 sabertooth

16gb Samsung 30nm ram 2000 cl9 @ 1.475v

2x HIS IceQ X 7850s

Corsair Force GT 240gb (has OS)

(Salvaged) Western Digital Caviar 750gb (backups)

2x Samsung 830 256gb

Win 7 ultimate 64bit

I recently got a pair of 256gb Samsung 830 drives which I decided to put into a RAID0 array on my x79 sabertooth mobo. I installed the drives and made sure they registered in both BIOS and Win7, which they did, great. Back to BIOS, then. I change the SATA mode to RAID from AHCI mode. Save changes and reboot. Attempt to enter IRST ROM to set up RAID volume during POST. No such luck. Thrown into windows boot loop. Back to AHCI mode. Boot again, everything is back to normal. Then I set up two simple volumes for each of the 830s spanning the entire drives. (Is this where I went wrong?) Reboot. Change SATA mode to RAID. Save changes and reboot. again, can't enter IRST ROM. Enter boot loop. Shit. Change back to AHCI and reboot. Back to win7. Maybe IRST firmware is out of date? Download and install newest firmware. Reboot, AHCI -> RAID, save and reboot. Still can't enter IRST ROM. Gah! What do I do???

Not sure whether you did this, but after you've set the sata mode to raid in the uefi, you have to press ctrl L i think when the system reboots and then create the array there, after that you should be able to install the drivers and the os.

unless you plan on the raid 0 drives for the opsys I wouldnt hassle with the onboard raid just raid them thru windows disk management in the control panel.
