x58 Motheboards

Hi,

i need an advise from you guys!

my motherboard and my processor have been burned because the pump broke down on my Corsair H100 while I was away and also because i had a pretty high overclock on my I7 920.

I was watching some motherboards and processors and I stick with these 2 options:

1º-Asrock X58 Extreme6

2 °-i7 970

what do you think about these two pieces of hardware?

Considering you are replacing both the motherboard and processor, would it not be better to go for a sandy bridge system. Especially considering the 970 is pretty expensive, and bordering on 3930k prices.

you guys may be right but the i7 39390k its 170€ more expensive that i7 970 and talking about price/performance do you think that justifies the price difference?!

Yes,the 3930k is so much faster and easily holds 4.5ghz oc on the ud3 mobo.

If you want high powered then go for what's already been suggested.

If you want a cheap but equally powerful replacement get a 1055T and MSI 890FXA-GD65, is about as powerful as a 920, and a 1090T as a 930. You can pick up the pair of them for little over £220 (Thuban hexes Fold almost twice as good on Ubuntu 11.x, if that's a factor to consider).

My vote would be the new 3930k over the 970 if you do memory intensive things aswell as gaming, easyer to OC like the 2500k/2600k and better clock for clock performance + a higher clock over all so even better performance.

The only reason i finished my 970 system in jan was because i got the 970 like 6 months ago for a damn good price and didnt fancy the hastle of selling it off to replace it with the bit faster hex, kinda wish i had now.

If its just for gaming with 1-2 graphics cards then my vote would be for a 2500k/2600k as the only benefit to the 3920 is the extra pci-e lanes and extra ram bandwidth from the quad channel memory that make relatively little difference in normal gaming machines.

All in all the 3820 isnt much different in price to a 2600k system but it is a bit of a pain to overclock due to how its semi locked.

ok guys!

i need my computer to do a little bit of video rendering, games and day buy day web usage. So... what your telling me that with a 2600k (do you think that with a diferance of 30€ it´s better to buy the 2700k?) and 32gb of memory an corsair 128gb ssd and MSI Z68A-GD80 G3 I will be very happy comparing with the rig that i had (sabertooth x58 and I7 920 C0)?

Stick with the 2600K mate, the 2700K is the same CPU with a 100 Mhz difference in clock speed. No point paying more for essentially the same thing.

So for a 2600K a "Z68" is best ??

Not really. Z68 just has more features compared to a P67 board, which you will probably not use if you're folding so no point going for a Z68 board over a P67 board. As far as I've heard overclocking wise, there is little to no difference between a good P67 and a good Z68 board.

That's the answer i was looking for , thank you matey
