X2 or stick to 'normal'

Theres rumours flying around that the X2`s are multiplier-locked. Anyone heard anything about this? I dont know how thats supposed to work if Cool n Quiet is a feature, but I would like to know for sure. If i`m going for a max OC, i`ll prob want the max multi, but it would be nice to have the option.

I wouldn't of thought they would be locked. Well not downwards anyway. I will let you know when chip arrives :)

Well hopefully this week but knowing how these things normally pan out it will arrive in about a month!

I cant wait to see how you guys fair with these new technological terrors.

I am sure the results will be better than we all expect.

Cheers

Having just spent nearly £600 on the FX San Diego I am in the same boat as fatty - lets see what happens first.

Don't forget you dual core beauties to try the custompc benchmark, it's P4 and Xeon turf and with these beauties fully overclocked you should kick some serious Intel Ass.

Good luck and may the force be with you.

I was thinking the same thing in regard to the CPC benchies :) Tho... i`m surprised not more Dual-Core Intel 8 series havent appeared...they`re in shops, I guess a lot of ppl dont wanna buy ANOTHER new mobo for them tho

I personally don't think they will overclock all that well, compared to FX55 and san diegos anyhow. I'll be happy with 3Ghz.

I keep forgetting stock is only 2.2Ghz :o I just need some memory now.... (Hint, hint: answer my memory thread :p )

Hi mate, well suprisingly no :p looking at Monday 27th now. One online retailer who I won't mention apparently paid a premium for the X2's to be the first to get them in but doesn't have them yet.

You can however get the X2 4200+ from a few places however I want 2mb L2 cache :)

I do have 2GB of memory coming next week to pair it with :)

I've no interest in dual core for the time being - there are too many "issues" to be addressed with them.

The best cpu on the market will have to be the FX57 San Diego. Gold dust.

Ah!!! I need one before the 7th of july, I can get my hands on one for €650, but the cheapest I've found is €511... I hate paying too much :(
