X1900XT Giving me probs

On monday I will be getting a test PSu and a Graphics card from my friend now that I have narrowed down the problem thanks a lot for your help :D. Since my new computer will be arriving soon ... well most parts still havent ordered Cpu cooling and Psu :P ... what Psu do you suggest for a X1950XT?

Last question is there a program to stress my graphics card ? While not actually being in a game just to see what happens...

ATI tools got a good stresstest in it, 3Dmark is another good test for stability.

For a X1950 id say a good 480W at least. Targen for example.

Check out specialtech, they got some on there and devliver internationaly i think.

is Q-tech a good make? , Also once or twice I got like Red pixles on the screen before it restarted... thats to do with it overheating right? .. but i still dont understand how the game will be working and it just stops before im actually playing Il be just at char selection. The mouse just stops and everything else to.... I really think its the Graphics card... The PSu cant make the graphics card just stop like that.. if not enough power was getting through wouldnt it crash to desktop?

well q-tec uses components other manufactures dont want due to bad quality and that says alot :/

q-tec is problably the worst possible brand in the world to get, codegen comes in as a close second.

EDIT:

oohh darn you beat me this time Ham :awhip: ;)

Generally an overheating graphics card wouldn't cause your PC to restart. It's more likely just to give you lots of graphics corruption, freeze your system or crash the game.

If i was you, i'd replace your PSU regardless of whether its the problem or not. Sooner or later your PSU is likely to go *pop* and kill everything connected to it.

Graphics cards use more power when in game (along with all the other components in your system being stressed more), so the PSU could easily be your culprit.

:)

if you really wish to test your gfx card, im sure there is a program called RTHDRIBL or soemthing like that (in my mind im saying "rithibblebadribble", say it its cool)

Aye, that's it. The thing I've found with RTHDRIBL though is that while it does cause the most heat possible, it doesn't really stress it in a way to show for artifacts and such. In my experience anyways <shrugs>

Hrm so you really think its the Psu..... I think though why would it freeze/restart much much more on one particular game... even if I put ALL the settings to Super low it does the same thing. On Other games it hardly happens as much.

example Oblivion gives me probs maybe once in a million lol... BF2 a bit more often... F.E.A.R sometimes. As far as I know a faulty game will just crash to desktop right? It wont make your computer Freeze/restart .. sometimes accompanied with the Blue screen of Doom.
