WTF

Either this is a joke or someone has used my account to spam loads of people??

Theres nothing out of the ordinary in my "sent" mail

=/

A mate could have signed you up for a load of
cussing.gif
cussing.gif
cussing.gif
cussing.gif
as a practical joke??

My friend thought it would be funny a few years back to sign me up for about 30 porn sites which in turn led to about 80 emails a day after a week or so.. I'm on the same account now though so it does die down. Don't get junk anymore.

edit: ahhh just actually looked at the content there... very strange :S

Looks like to me you was sent a chain email or something, and then you fw: it but none of the emails exists.. so you get that error email

Yeah unfortunately the average mail system is severely flawed in the fact that i could send 100,000 emails from your email address to an address that doesn't exist (without actually accessing your mailbox) and just watch as you get bombarded with delivery failures.

but how did they use my email address??? unless they used it as the referral or as a web based system would look for a user inputted address?

One of my mates signed some of my friends up to pampers or something once.

They got free nappies through their letter box.

We laughed a little...

The SMTP email system was invented a long time before the internet became a place full of spammers and hackers. Also many people that run their own mail servers don't know how to secure them properly and leave them exposed as open relays.

All it would take is a telnet window and you to give me the email address of your parents, and I could have you admitting your unhealthy love for male bodyparts to them via email ;)

Yes is even easier than that these days aswell with bots specifcally written and available to purchase that take the knowledge behind email spamming away from alot of the people who are doing it. Essentially all a modern day email spammer needs is a list of email addresses which can be harvested easily from the internet by another bot that can be purchased, or you can easily purchase lists.

Essentially all that has happened is the return and sender address email has been spoofed on a bunch of emails that have been sent by somebody, the ones that were sent to non existant or email servers with blocklists, filters in place have bounced back to that spoofed information. I am surprised this is the first time you have come across it is a common occurance.

Personally I use several email addresses and use them for different things like for forums etc I will use hotmail anything that has the potential to easily harvest email addresses or be potentially published on a website such as within a profile etc. Then I have several others that only go out for important things that I dont want spam sent to.

Setting up spam filters is always good, but if you work within the gambling or adult industy then it sucks as they tend to act more like a blacklist and will class almost all your valid emails as spam meaning you will have to whitelist all the domains you want to accept from.

Nothing to worry about though just delete them all.

Ya nothing to really worry about.

But - if any1 is a worrier:

0. Update ur viral/malware/nagware scanners.

1. Scan ur pc for virals

2. Scan ur pc for malware/nagware.

3. Boot into safemode and run Smitfraudfix and ATF-Cleaner. (download them first obviously, google is ur friend here)

Reboot into ur desktop - and think nothing of it.

It looks like someone who is a forum administrator is using your email as the ADMIN email.

Cause I get the same thing when someone on my clan website puts in an incorrect address/their email expires/their inbox is full etc.
