Worth Switching to Water Cooling?

Hey guys,i have recently just finished my first ever build and besides a few minor problems all is well.

I still have a few things to upgrade/add to, such as new optical drive and a extra hdd but besides that everything is hunky dory.

Right now i have decided to postpone overclocking my rig as i feel my temps are a little too high idle (30-36 max load 58/59).

I have a i7 950 and a asus sabretooth mobo chucked inside a antec 1200.

The heatsink is a akasa viper,i have one akasa viper 120 mm fan pushing and a old 120mm fan from an old computer pulling towards back of case where exhaust fans are located.

I'm trying to decide if I'm better buying a water cooling kit before overclocking or if i should just add an extra viper fan to use as my pulling fan,and a couple other 120's for general air flow + some arctic silver tp.I reseated the heatsink a couple times but didn't have any luck with lowering temps.I know these temps aren't extremely high but i cant help feel like i might run into trouble later if i decide to overclock to say 4ghz.

What do you guys think am i just being silly?I think i might just be making up excuses to swap over to wc after seeing Toms recent snowdrift build which is sizzling btw

!!!

Thanks

If you really want to wc then try it! I would just chuck in the D14 and be done with it. I'm not sure how that Akasa performs so i'll have to look into that

But those temps look just gravy

Thanks for the reply Dude,I prob will end up getting a wc at some point in the future anyways so What the hell why not!

Don't buy it you will regret it. For the same money you can get a Noctua NH-D14 which is near silent and will get lower temps. The H70 probably wont be able to handle a 950 at 4ghz either and if it can the fans would be on full and it will sound like a hoover.

EDIT: Tom beat me to it

The noctua nh-d14 performs better than h70 and is cheaper. If you want watercooling, its all in or nothing.

Have a look at this rewiev

The noctua nh-d14 it is then!

Thanks for the replies chaps.

Prob order it when i get in from work tomorrow night.

Just watching some YouTube reviews including yours Tom,Cant understand why i didn't buy this

instead of the akasa viper everyone is singing its praises.

Will it fit in the antec1200?

Thanks again.

Lol we didnt mean to dampen your spirits to water cooling, but like they are saying, you don't just decide to do it on a whim. Its all or nothing. And the D14 is the next best thing to water, without all the wetness lol
