Work out your PC power consumption

Hmmmm 380w.... but I'm thinking about getting another 4770 and getting new hard drives when I have the money (which might take a while but oh well:p) so that might increase... :D

Aries as it probably will be = 521W

I added a HDD and 4 USB devices:p

Also capacitor aging = at 20% which is recommended.

It will probably be more since aries has a mars and not a regular 295 but it gets close

Those web calculators aren't too accurate most of the time, that one says I should need approximately 510w.

Though I have a meter hooked up to my plug socket that says I'm really only using 182-284w on average; the 100w increase is usually when traffic starts going a bit crazy on my NAS.

My computer doesn't seem to want to go over 78% load at the moment, without my NAS on it is fluctuating between 235-247w while compiling. I'd imagine at 100% load it would float somewhere around 290-310w.

Ran a Prime95 test for just under 15 minutes.

Power usage jumped quite a bit at the start of the test, from 194w while just playing around with moving files to 344w when Prime shot the usage up.

It started to drop a little as the test went on and stabilised around 325w with about 3-5w fluctuations.

My PC really didn't like my turning on the NAS and printer while doing the test. =D

2x Intel Xeon 5110 @1700MHz

4x 2GB DDR2 FB-DIMM (8GB)

11x HDD (9 IDE, 2 SATA)

1x nVidia Quadro FX 3400

2x Optical drive

2x PCI IDE Interface

1x Sound Blaster Xtreme Music

600w BeQuiet! Straight Power E7 PSU

This system doubles as a server and a graphics design/programming platform.

I'll have to swap the meter plug over to my gaming rig tomorrow after work and see how much more power it draws compared to the server.

just went and looked at it said u should only take 559w so it draws less power than i thot from the specs :rollingla

The site was saying somewhere around 530w for my server specs.

I think most of the power is taken down due to the fact that I mainly use IDE HDDs, that saves about 50w. About 60w of the site's score was produced from my USB devices, though most of them are only drawing power when being used so it wouldn't count on my actual usage.

I noticed the main thing that hit the wattage up on that site is the system load, drop it from the 90% (recommended) down to 65% (what I normally work at) and it drops about 190w.

Would be pretty good if a site could scan your active parts to determine its estimate on how much power you use rather than the guess from all the parts you name.

It thinks 653w on my gaming rig's specs, I'll definitely plug my rig into my meter tomorrow to see how close it is.

I have a feeling that it uses a little bit more power than that though.
