Hey guys....new to the board but thought I could use it for some advice. I am about to build a pc that I will use to do my work, watch tv/movies, and share files to my laptop. I want this PC to be quiet and powerful. I don't game, but I do watch hd movies. I plan on using my 3 - 24" monitors to split between my work stuff and use Windows Media Center. Here is my parts.

OS: Windows 7 Pro

CASE: Fractal Design Define R3 White (Just ordered)

CPU: Intel i5-2500K

MOBO: ASUS Sabertooth P67 (Rev 3.0)

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600

Video Card: ASUS Radeon HD 6670

PSU: SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold

Main Drive: Intel 510 Series 120GB

Storage: Western Digital Green 2 TB (2)

TV Tuner: Ceton Infinitv4 Digital Cable Quad-tuner Card

Audio Card: HT Omega Claro Plus (Already have it)

CPU FAN/heatsink: Noctua NH-C14 140mm X 2 SSO CPU Cooler

Will I have trouble fitting the RAM and CPU Fan?

Thinking I may go with the Mushkin Enhanced Blackline, if Ripjaws heatsink causes problems with the NH-C14. I definitely want to be able to run both of those fans to help cool the MOBO.

Looks good all except for the raided drives im assuming you will be doing that to the 2 WD green drives correct? If so the power saving feature causes them to not sink up when they are spun up, Meaning some data gets read and other data doesnt. Meaning the raid will crash, and you will loose your data.

That should be a nice quiet rig. Nice choice of graphics card as well. You'll need an active display port adapter if you are using standard dvi monitors.

I don't plan on RAIDing the two green drives. I will do redundancy myself for my music and OS drive back ups. I won't be too worried about losing my dvr videos. I got a old Socket 754 AMD 2400+ 64 bit system that I may setup as a stand alone server. I would just have to buy a new case and get some cheap PCI raid cards. Would WMS 2011 work good enough on that single core system?

I am a day trader. The software I use isn't really too powerful. Just standard streaming quotes.

Ahh ok only reason for asking was that dependent on what you were doing could make a difference on the spec of the PC...but saying that with the build you have put together I think your generally covered for most things

I am only debating whether I should get the i7 instead of the i5. I plan on using the 4 tv tuners all the time and I don't want any lag on the computer when doing my work. Not sure how CPU intensive windows media center is when recording.

I can record 4 freeview channels & watch something else on a 775 E5300.

I am not very good with all the different intel sockets, but for the kind of thing your talking about above, i would suggest the more cores the better, and also the more RAM the better!, that should stop any chance of any kind of lag.

If its between i5-2500K and i7-2600K, they both have 4 cores, but the i7 has 8 threads compared to the i5's 4, so therein lies the difference. There is one single other difference but its irrelevant from what I can tell.

I am not sure if I will be able to tell the difference between the 2500k or the 2600k. 8 GB should be more than enough. If it isn't I can just spend another $80 to get a total of 16 GB.

Figure I post an update. I have been running and using my PC for a couple days. He is what I went with so far.

CASE: Fractal Design Define R3 White

CPU: Intel i5-2500K

MOBO: ASUS Sabertooth P67 (Rev 3.0)

RAM: Mushkin Enhanced Radioactive 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600

Video Card: ASUS Radeon HD 6670

PSU: SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold

Main Drive: Intel 320 Series 120GB

Storage: Western Digital Green 2 TB and a 1 TB (so far)

TV Tuner: Ceton Infinitv4 Digital Cable Quad-tuner Card (in the mail should have it tomorrow)

Audio Card: HT Omega Claro Plus

CPU FAN/heatsink: Noctua NH-C14 140mm X 2 SSO CPU Cooler

Mouse: Logitech Performance Mouse MX

Keyboard: Logitech K800 (in the mail should have it by the end of the week)

I now would like to add 2 fans. 1 for an intake and 1 on the top of the case. The fans need to be quiet so what are your recommendation.
