Wargames WOPR desk computer

From the movie Wargames i bring you WOPR.

Love this movie, and love the WOPR.
Started planning this a half year ago, tried to contact people in the US having some info about the real model to get measurements and color codes etc.
Got some good info and now its time to get it rollin´.
I found some sketchup model of the WOPR, but the measurements were totally off, and some parts were to big/small, wrong place and so on. Took me almost a month to get all details right in the sketchup model. Used the movie of course and all pics i could found on the net. Also got some emailed to me from a previous worker who made the original back in the 80´s.
Size of the case will be about 19x8x6", perfect to house a ITX motherboard with a 3870K AMD, i have a Intel 330 128GB SSD somewhere and a Corsair H60 that will to the job perfect
I do not play games, so the graphic power is not a issue for me.

If someone dont know what the WOPR is.

sorry for the mess around the bench, i dont have time to clean up for the pics ;)
Of course there will be some descent final pics and video of it.

Yeah, chess works. And portal 2 when i get bored for a hour maybe to clean the brain :)

Cut most of the pieces today, later when the kids are in bed i wil update with more pics of the structure :)
 
Got a question on another forum how the LED´s will work, so i bring the explanation here too :)

Here´s how it works.

RED - cluster 1
BLUE - cluster 2
GREEN - cluster 3
YELLOW - cluster 4
And so on.

The clusters contains both yellow and red LED´s and have their own specific location.

Each (except for two, one always lit, one always off) clusters get lights on for X milliseconds, X is different for each clusters of LED´s and all this together gives the nice blinking and lightshow on the WOPR

This work, to find what color goes where, wich led is lit togheter wich others, their speed and location and so on took me a month.
But, after i tried to just do some random blinking, it didnt look right, so i got stuck in perfection. I want my WOPR to be a small version of the WOPR in the movie, not a random christmas light flash-thingy.
LED positions/groups on the panels are 99% identical with the original, when AT & T made a replica, they didnt care about that detail, i will though :)

I have about 35 of the pics below, the example shows about 1/8 of the panel, each containing the ~1400 leds in different modes. + a layout for what color goes where.

Kids can mod too!

Got held up by some repainting in my home :)

My kids, twins at age 4, have seen me make much of the mods, been with me at my shop and painting, cutting and stuff.
Got in from the store and i talking in phone and went into the kitchen to avoid my kids playing and screaming, they noticed the bag we had with us from the store and took a spray paint, rattle can.

Suddenly i started to smell something from the kitchen, the smell of spray paint, dropped my phone and got into my living room where the kids was.
One can of black wheel paint, half empty on floor, walls and windows.

Hard to get angry, my own fault leaving the can in a spot where they can get it.
Kids curiosity is wonderful sometimes :)
Luccky they didnt know that it needed to be shaken before use, so not so much speed with the paint, but a real mess!

I have our TV, laptop and two 24" monitors in the same room. Not one drip of paint on any electronics.
Took some time to repaint the walls and clean up the windows, but hey, now its all nice again and one experience richer!

Need to buy more thinner :D
