WinXP & DVDROM

Hi all,

Can someone help me out on how to restore my cd/dvd drive back. I have just installed WinXP x64 for someone on their new system (as per their request) and once the system finished doing all its updates I went to load up a game for them but the drive didn't come into action.

I checked it by going to MYCOMPUTER and low n behold.. no drive icon.

My step dad had the same problem on his XP laptop and I found the solution to be:

[Start] [Run] [Regedit]

Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class

Key Name: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Value Data: [Delete All Value Data from UpperFilters and LowerFilters]

Note: Do not delete the Key or the Multi-String Values. Delete only the data values.

Exit Registry and Reboot

But this new installation doesnt have any Filters in the mentioned registry key. So the fix wont work.

Anyone have any suggestions??? I all out of ideas and I'm not a windows person.

If the driver has power it might be the sata/IDE cable has come loose.

Cheers, it turned out to be a loose IDE lead. I like problems that simple.
