Windows 7 Install Bug / Repair, Raid controller...

Yo guys,

I recently upgraded my motherboard, cpu and ram....

Decided to use the same chipset in the hope that windows would get on with them automatically sparing me the need for a fresh install, but no such luck, Bsod on boot...

I read up and it seemed that if I used the windows 7 disk as if I was installing a clean install it would give me the option to repair just before I installed the new OS...

However, it was having trouble finding my new raid/sata controller... I installed the drivers from disk and still, windows would recognise the drive however gave me no options to install or repair (could not see the windows install)...

After formatting the disk i then discovered there seems to be a bug in the install which means you must eject the Raid driver CD, re-insert the windows CD and press refresh... This showed my windows install and, Had I not reformatted already I could have proceeded with the repair which would have redected the hardware...

I did try the usual means, Ie, all safe modes, changing the boot record, repair, chkdisk etc etc... and apparently this method is the only way to redect the hardware.

I know there are other ways of doing this, however Hope this helps someone out before they reformat the drive when changing hardware doing things the way I did...

:)
