Windows 10 Runs Faster than OS X

Windows 10 seems to run faster than OS X on the new MacBook. Let's hope Microsoft have really made Windows more efficient.

It's a MacBook AIR

Windows let AIR get inside your house, USA national parks don't.

p.s.: sorry I had to do that

So it just responds quicker to tasks as opposed to giving a performance boost? Not really the most scientific evaluation ever now, is it?

However, it kinda makes sense seeing how bad OSX has been getting recently. Especially post Yosemite. Apple have been getting a bit lazy IMO. As this guy mentioned, the animations are terribly optimized. It is very much Apple's Vista. They put too much crap in it and seem to have completely forgotten that they sell low power devices.

Then again, if you're not an idiot and don't rice the hell out of Windows 8.1, it can be fast and efficient too. Much like how OSX used to be.

A macbook air is not low end if you ask me, I'd not call a PCIE SSD slow and low end. Lightweight does not equal low end.

Finally, W10 is probably slower than most versions of Linux still ;)

As long as there are Apple fanboys stuck in 2009 and still think that mac OS is faster, more optimised than anything with the name "windows" on it Apple will be still making TONNES of money. [Apple is so rich that they litteraly can buy Greece's whole debt and still have money left to bring "new" products in the market"

The thing is, osx was (and in a few circumstances IS) faster until...maybe this year? By its nature it is much more optimised (and much more secure) but they've gotten lazy.

I find this rather amusing.

Up until a few days ago I was running OSX Yosemite and Windows 8.1 side by side and both were installed to SSDs and both were very quick. How you'd ever notice that difference is beyond me?

I tell you what I did notice though. In OSX if I benchmarked my 8 core Xeon it absolutely splattered my friend's I5 4670k, even overclocked. But that will just be down to 'nix making better use of a highly threaded CPU.

Yosemite runs awfully on macbook airs (and has a few issues with older MBPs). I'd imagine its pretty noticeable on slower devices. I'd almost wager that it'd be slower responding then windows 7.

Can also blame the fact Mac Airs are slow as shit in the first place. They are only dual cores at 1.6ghz with one core boosting up to 2.7ghz. Not exactly that quick, especially when people want to do video editing and etc.

I have a laptop with an i3, 4GB RAM and 128GB Sata SSD (so on paper slightly slower than a MBA) and runs Windows 8 perfectly fine. Even does a bit of PhotoShop but if you really want to video render on a laptop I'd say that's a stupid idea, even if it's MB Pro.

Windows 10 runs better than OSX on the macbooks *And probably hardware in general* so why would you get OSX if it runs worse on your machine ?

Only reason I use OS X on my machine is audio recording and editing. Windows really doesn't keep up with that software- and plugin wise. Also funnily enough I feel sound is better from OS X.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but might be something to do with Windows' sound API while OS X uses hardware level?

100% correct.

The sound API in OSX is a hell of a lot better than Windows, It's one of the main reasons people in the music industry use it.

My brother works in the music industry doing promotional work etc... for one of Germany's biggest labels and ALL of their editing/recording equipment is OSX based due to the superior sound API.

Something to do with latency, Quality etc... I'm not to up on the specifics of the sound API TBH.

Sadly that is all it has over Windows though.

Honestly I had never used OS X in my life before my iMac but as soon as I got it I was like well how am I gonna go back to Windows now?!

I usually use the iMac most nights and then jump on the rig if I'm gonna game.

Dice, what are we doing? I think we might be having a civil discussion about Windows vs Mac

Yeah, for audio there is no competition. For graphics design performance is really the same, although I must admit like in PhotoShop I think I prefer OS X as the taskbar and menubar get merged, while already being smaller than in Windows, and just gives you that bit more real estate and a cleaner workspace.

Also, everything requires drivers in Windows cause the OS is built to work on any system. While Macs are locked down with the exception of Hackintoshes so hardware is either compatible or not.
I noticed that when I plugged in my new audio interface and MiDi keyboard. Both required drivers in Windows, but worked natively in OS X.

I use Windows 8.1 Pro as my daily driver though and it's definitely not worth rebooting and switching to OS X just for PhotoShop. I guess the main reason I prefer Windows is that I grew up with the OS and know exactly how it works. I know where to find all the settings without looking it up and if I want to change something - I change it without terminal commands.

I think if a person grew up using OS X, they'd prefer that and it would be the most efficient OS for them.
