Win8 looks crap?

OUCH !

Windows 2000 was the best OS they ever released man !. It was NT with a nice new front end. LOL bit is that XP was 2000 with a new GUI

XP was the first home based OS that used NTFS. Infact, you could turn off the GUI and have Windows 2000 staring at you

Windows Multiple Errors (sniggers) was an attempt at slapping the 2000 front end on 98 and failing. They didn't want to put out a cheap NT OS at the time as that would mean businesses could then use it on account of it being cheaper. Something when badly wrong though

Vista was terrible. Correction, even with multiple service packs and fixes it's still terrible.

Lollipop - Microsoft have never been honest. Their first mainstream operating system was DOS (CMD, basically). And most of that was pinched from an early Unix OS. They were in court over that one too

2000 was top dog before XP SP1 hit. Vanilla XP was horrible and bug riddled before the first service pack. Vista was horrible as well until SP2 arrived. It makes the OS much more useable and quicker. It's amazing how much SP2 speeds up Vista. It still isn't good as Win7 mind you, but a vast improvement over vanilla Vista.

Ok, Win 2000 was good, but if I said that my every other OS theory wouldn't have worked

Win 8 looks very similar to Microsofts smart phone software. I think I remember them saying that Win 7 was all about communication and taking the PC out of that box under the desk. With mobiles having enough power to launch the space shuttle these days, seems Microsoft are trying to diversify and show us we need PC's in every device in our home. In many ways I gotta believe them. I gave up on regular TV when I moved house and relied on the tinterweb for films/programs. I watch them when I want and have gained far more time for me. I know I use my main rig for that, but why not put a pc into a regular TV, washing machine, toaster, hair dryer, etc (ok, went a bit far there)

However, right or wrong, that's why Microsoft are changing the way our OS's look and work. They state they need to improve connectivity so these devices can talk easier, and not crash

Win 7 was a step towards it and now Win 8 seems to be taking it a step further. Saying all that, I'll skip this school project OS for the next one the main guys will already be working on in the background

Water cooled toaster anyone.....?

I going to skip windows 8 i think. It looks like windows 7 and windows phone 7 had a love child. I've read they are going to include the ability to turn off the start page panels which would just leave you with the windows 7 desk top environment so i'm not realy seeing the point. I realy dislike the whole windows phone 7/start page thing.

just put the beta of windows 8 on a spare drive to have a look i dont like it one little bit all that comes to mind is shit shit shit.

couldn't dissagree more with you guys. I think it looks great, maybe needs some rounder edges but thats all. Being able to swith between desktops is great and the apps get you all the info you need way faster. also the task manager is a huge step forward.

the only thing not to like is that i had to use google to figure out how to turn it off

Remove tablet features, the stupid startup menu with colorful boxes, and you have a great improved Windows 7.

I'm really liking the multimonitor taskbar and I think it will be a great OS.

Appstore brings in alot of extra money. For me this is a sale trick. Havent tried w8 yet but its downloadable now right? Will try it on my lap top if so.
