Will SATA-2 work with my motherboard

Hello All

I have a DFI Lanparty NF4 SLI-DR motherboard and i am looking at buying this....

Just need to know if my motherboard will be compatable with SATA-2, I have checked on the DFI site and this is all they say:

Four Serial ATA ports supported by the nForce4 chip

- SATA speed up to 3Gb/s

- RAID 0, RAID 1 and RAID 0+1

- NVIDIA RAID allows RAID arrays spanning across Serial ATA and Parallel ATA

Four Serial ATA ports supported by the Silicon Image Sil 3114 chip

- SATA speed up to 1.5Gb/s

- RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 0+1 and RAID 5

I have bought a nice UV Reactive SATA cable aswell but just need this confirming before placing my bid.

Thanks, Sam

Yep, it will work fine. I've got the same board, and a pair of SATA-2 Hitachi's hooked up to it :D

the cable you have is probly sata and not sataII as i havent seen any uv ones available...

it will still work though just at normal sata speeds;)

cheers.

AFAIK there are no real differences between the SATA cables. I used some cheap UV SATA cables i bought a while back with my SATA2 drives without any problems at all.

Unfortunately to unlock the full SATAII interface you need a special SATAII cable which is a bit thicker. I have a nice Silverstone SATAII cable connecting my 80gb Deskstar to my bench rig and it's a great cable.

I should do some HDTach comparisons between my RAID SATA and SATAII drives.

The cable i have bought is a Sata 2 Akasa UV cable.
