I'm hovering between the standard asus 280x and the V2 model and im not sure which to go with because im debating if i really need 4 displayports for this setup. i could possibly run the proffesional monitor [1440P] on the one displayport, the main 21:9 on the hdmi, and the auxilary 21:9 on a DVI. what do you think? would i be better off just running them all of DP?

Provided the connectors are able to provide the resolution of each monitor it doesn't really matter which you use really.

Can HDMI run your 21:9 resolution? I'm not quite sure if it can, I'd need to know the specifics of the monitor.

I think the Standard ASUS 280X is this one? Link

If so you should be fine running your main monitor of DP and the other two using DVI.

the monitors are as follows:
  • [21:9] ASUS PB298Q
  • [1440P] ASUS PB278Q
the standard IO version im looking at is the "TOP" one.
and I'd be suprised if HDMI didnt support 2560x1080 due to the presence of an HDMI port on the monitor.

Ok, thanks for the clarification. I just wanted to know the resolution to be sure HDMI supported it, I wouldn't want to be giving bad advice.

The config should be fine either way, DP + 2DVI or DP + DVI +HDMI, you will not lose or gain anything by going all Display Port, so I would go for the Better card.

The R9 280X Top should be better as it has higher stock clocks and a newer iteration of ASUS' cooler.

thank you for such a clear answer, I should even save some money that i can put into improving other parts of my build.

No problem.

Feel free to post your build in the New Builds section if you want anymore help, It is what it is there for after all.
