Wikileaks - 251k Documents

More US Army scandals?

TBH, the whole thing seems kind of pointless to me. There is no real reason to release these documents, but there is also no reason why he shouldn't release them.

It's no secret that diplomatic documents are going to contain information that is A) about the country that the embassy is in,
cool.gif
might be negative about said country, and C) is written in a rather frank style. If you "know" that these documents are completely confidential, then you are going to write what you think.

On the other hand, it is not the job of Wikileaks, or the media to stop the government from being embarrassed by these documents.

I imagine every diplomatic pouch from every country contains similar despatches, and every embassy has at least one diplomat whose job is to spy on the government and people of whichever country they are working in. It will be fun to see which countries feign umbrage at these leaked documents.

Also, whilst Assange is a bit of a ****, it really seems like the US is putting loads of pressure on foreign countries to have him locked up and discredited. It seems like the wrong move to me.

I've just remembered one last thing. Do you remember how the US and UK governments declared that the release of the Iraq docs a few months ago was going to cause the death of hundreds of millions of people (that may be a slight exaggeration). There was a lot of media coverage. What you may not have seen was the press release a month of so back, that said the leak has caused precisely zero deaths. It's hard to believe that this one will be much worse, especially as it's not really blowing the whistle on anything.

That was a long and rather boring post - sorry guys

An arrest warrant has been sent to Scotland yard UK but has not been processed or issued as of yet.

There are currently over 500 mirrors for wikileaks listed here: http://213.251.145.96/mirrors.html

There is also an unofficial news site for wikileaks here: http://wlcentral.org/

The only thing that is down with wikileaks.org is the DNS.

Julian Assange has said that he will hand himself in to UK authorities tomorrow and plans to fight his case in UK courts to prevent extradition.

Apparent rape charges.... good timing for these to come out right? Such BS tbh... anything to get him gone. Surprised this man isn't dead yet.

He basically slept with a couple of women over a few days and they found out and weren't too happy. Funny thing it one of them is an ex employee of the government(not sure which one).

The second woman dropped all charges once she found what was going on and the first women had her case thrown out in sept ember.

The day he started releasing documents some politician brought the case back up and got it re-opened.

new case summary:
name='the guardian' said:
The claims related to two women who said they had met Assange in connection with a seminar he gave in the Swedish capital on 14 August.

The women filed their complaints together six days later, on Friday 20 August. The allegations stem from claims that Assange had sex with the two women on separate occasions and reportedly centre on his willingness or otherwise to use condoms. His lawyer, Mark Stephens, last night summed up the issue as a "dispute over consensual but unprotected sex".

He's just given himself up to British police: source:

The London Metropolitan Police has confirmed that Julian Assange was arrested this morning on behalf of the Swedish authorities, reports The Guardian: "Julian Assange, 39, was arrested on a European Arrest Warrant by appointment at a London police station at 9.30am."

The statement notes that he is due to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court today.

"As of last night Assange had still not been told of the full allegations against him, his lawyer Jennifer Robinson explained in a Guardian video to be released soon," notes The Guardian.
