Why is my 7950 on a 3570k running at pcie 2.0 and not 3.0?

So I got a new motherboard and cpu (Z77A-GD65 and 3570K) which should work at pcie 3.0 with my 7950, however it is running at pcie 2.0.
When the system starts up there is a message saying that it is using pcie 2.0.
Does anyone know what the cause of this is, or how to fix it?
Thanks in advance.

dont really matter much since 2.0 isnt saturated yet. But most likely its a power saving mode or the likes.

are you running 3 times 7950's?? if so it may be cause you onlu have 2 3.0 slots and one 2.0 slot so its making all 3 cards run at 2.0??

No I only have 1 7950 and I know it doesn't matter much yet, but I would like to know if it is the cpu that is faulty.
Opening GPU-Z it shows pcie x16 3.0/running at pcie x16 2.0 no matter what so I don't think that it is power saving.

no its not faulty, if you read the message correctly it states :
that the asmedia addin chip (for extra sata) is using pci-e gen 2.

if you want to enable gen3.0
go into bios / settings / pci subsystem settings and enable gen3.0 (its not by default)
but the asmedia message at the start will still read as using gen2.0

Actually it was set at enabled, however when I disabled it and enabled it again it worked! Thanks vengeance and Sin for your quick replies
