Hello to everyone.

My laptop just exploded and so I am going to need a gaming rig and have never built a PC before (yes yes, im a noob)

You guys seem very helpful as well as knowlegable and so, here I am.

Id like to order a PC pretty quickly and have a budget of around £1500, this is what I have come up with so far and what I need help with.

Cosmos S - really like this case, but is it any better than the Antec 1200?

i7 - 920 - neeeeed

Mobo - no idea which one to pick, P6T Deluxe V2...? SLI/ 6 RAM slots/ help

3 X 2GB RAM - EHHHH lost in a sea of MHz here, Dominator 1600..?

295 GTX - worth paying for more expensive brands?

PSU - may look to upgrade in about a year so 1000W+, lost in a sea of connectors and brands

2 X 1TB HDs - RAID 0, is this the right thing to do? or is solid state and a cheap 1TB storage drive THAT much better

CPU cooler - any reccomendations?

Also need a wireless card. Currently lost as to what to do. Suggestions welcome, especially as far as the PSU and MOBO goes.

Cheers. :D

Cosmos S cosmos is a nice case but its airflow is quiet bad compared too a HAF or a antec 1200

i7 - 920 Great choice make sure its D0 stepping

Mobo - tbh any x58 motherboard will do as they all do si/crossfire tri channel etc, only motherboard ive used which is x58 is the bloodrage and that was top notch

3 X 2GB RAM - corsair dominators are really nice 1600mhz with the lowest timings are your best choice

295 GTX - go for the cheapest tbh there all the same

PSU - might aswell go a for a 800 watt+ psu, i recommend tagan or corsair

2 X 1TB HDs - damn fine raid, 1 SSD mite be slower i dont know

CPU cooler - Coolermaster v8

hope this helps

ive only had 1 x58 setup and that was for a short period of time so im no master when it comes too it, you should wait on people who have experience

Thanks for the reply Ghost, the only reason I wanted a 1000W+ PSU was because I may upgrade to duel 295s at christmas and I wasnt sure anothing less than 1kw would handle it.

If anyone could add to/ confirm Ghosts comments it would be much appreciated. Is there anything else I need to buy in the whole PC setup eg thermal paste/ antistatic mat etc?

Dual 295's is pointless dude, games really dont like all those GPU's.

Just buy a couple of 285's and youll be more than set for a good while.

quad gpu's are pointless mate, buy 2x 285's now and it will out run a 295, then if you have to later just replace the 285's with something newer.

Quad GPU gaming just looks nice, hardly ever works out that well when you actualy look at the FPS

Looking at the 285 review, it would seem that a single 295 outperforms a single 2GB 285 while being as expensive

However I may just be being a noob.

You, sir, are awesome.

That is probably, basically, what I will end up getting, however may put on a more chunky CPU HS and mess around with the GPUs

cheers

take £30 off for the hsf then you should have £100+ bob left, which means if you want some watercooling ive got some for sale which means that was cheeky of me lool

lol sorry but i dont quite trust myself with watercooling yet seeing as this is my first build.

How does the coolermaster PSU stand up to the corsair HX1000, is there any point in spending the extra cash?

*Hopefully* ill get VAT off due to my parents buisiness, is there anything else I would need to buy to build that from scratch? I.E anything needed to keep the wireing in check or thermal paste etc.

you get antistatic mats with your motherboard so i wudnt bother buying any, also best way too stay static free is too mount your psu into your case and plug the psu into the mains but dont turn the mains on, and when your building the pc just touch the case every so often :p

Just don't were your GF's silk knickers and you'll be fine ...

Never wore any anti static straps, pads or naff all in the last 15 years + of building a pc and never lost a thing to static ...

Well im in the process of ordering

1000W Corsair HX Series PSU ATX

Intel Core i7 920, D0

And some of that reccomended thermal paste, is there anything I am missing/ that isnt compatable here/ im a tit. When I get this stuff im gonna have no idea what to do with it, is it possible to just connect everything up before I start her up for the first time or should I connect the GFX cards one at a time etc.

thanks for the help

K&P are awesome.

yum yum i like the look of the specs its gunna be a right cracker, to be honest if you read the manuals on how too essemble it you should be good to go..

also assemble everything inside the case and insert both gpu's etc because i doubt you will have any bugger ups
