Why do people have ram coolers?

I can't argue it looks beautiful (imo) and I fancying getting one but Is there any real (performance, cooling) reason for getting it?

It's cheap and I considering to get a red and black cooler since it would look nice with my color scheme

About as much point to RAM coolers as there is for HDD coolers, they are pretty pointless and aesthetically pathetic IMHO.

Do you even need it to overclock your ram? just curious

Memory hasn't required cooling since the old DDR2 days, DDR3 doesn't run hot enough to even need heat spreaders, they're mainly for looks over functionality. The only time you are going to need ram cooling is if your going to be doing CPU LN2 Overclocking.
