Which SSD controller is better

I would still like to get the Savage drive for my OS and and the cheaper 480GB/500GB for the games, The good thing about the FD cases is the SSD mounts are in the back of the case so you don't even see them.

The only reason why i'm having second thoughts is budget, Also i'm buying a DXRacer chair & making a new desk from Ikea so i need to cut cost somewhere cause i'm not changing my mind on the desk cause i want solid wood not chipboard or MDF.

Yeah i understand it's easier just with one drive but i will look at is what is easier when it comes to when you have to reinstall windows, for me it's too much of a pain transferring everything over to a different drive, The other problem is for me is i don't really have that kind of money to buy a 960GB/1TB SSD.

Yeah that's a good point. 1Tb is relatively cheap now. I think an 850 Samsung is about $480 AUD.

I have four drives and it's a bit ridiculous but that's what happens when you buy one at a time as required. I'll probably re-purpose them at some stage for backups or NAS.

I guess it depends on how much King of Old School wants to spend and how much storage he's after.

-edit just saw your post. If you're looking around 750gb total (480 Storage +240 OS) I'd be sorely tempted to either just get an EVO 1tb for about $90.00 extra (I know this isn't saving money but it's 250gb extra storage)

Alternatively just get the 480 now and run that as OS and storage for a few months and then get another 480 (or larger as the price comes down) I'm sure you could partition it to make it easier to migrate your Steam library or data when you upgrade.

After hours of thinking, i think i may have an idea where i'm going with my SSD setup.

OS Drive: Kingston HyperX Savage 240GB
Games Drive: Samsung 850 EVO 500GB even tho i don't really want to go with Samsung but i can get a good deal.

There is nothing wrong with the 850 EVO, especially compared to the 840 EVO. This is excluding the time they released a broken firmware update. It does have a 10 year warranty on the NAND and the for the price/performance you get I'd still get a Samsung SSD over pretty much everyone else(and that is coming from someone who is not a fan of Samsung at all).

Yeah i think i will just bite the bullet and get the Samsung the EVO's only have 5 year warranty but even that is good.

What do you think about the Kingston as my OS drive or should i swap that and get the Samsung as well.
 
Are the Kingston's not cheap in Australia? I got two 240GB's for my friends build, £65 each, they look very epic too. Why would you need the bundle version? The drive only is ideal.

I can get the bundle for about $20.00 more Kingston HyperX Savage 240GB 2.5in SSD $149.00 or the Bundle version for $161.70 but then again maybe i don't really need the bundle.

Personally I trust Kingston for reliability, not so much speed. My work uses budget Kingston SSDs (SSDnows) in all our PCs and they've been really reliable, with maybe 5 failures out of ~150 PCs in total. Thats significantly less than the Corsair Force drives they've mostly replaced.

I'd just get one big ssd. I did what you did with my current rig (I'm running a 240gb samsung evo 840 as boot/programs and a 500gb 840 evo as games/linux/other crap) and I regret not just getting one big drive.
 
What happened to Corsair.and their SSD line. We used to get plenty of reviews on new products. Those have gone silent. I have had good luck with them, and they seemed to work well.

If i went bigger i'm paying about $70.00 more tho, I just can't find any cheaper 1TB SSD
Samsung 850 EVO Series 1TB 2.5in SSD $475.00.

I do have other choices too

Crucial BX100 1TB SSD $449.00. & OCZ Trion 100 960GB $449.00

Maybe because they fail alot ;)

I had 7 failures with the GTX series until I switched to the Samsung pro. Still havent had an issue yet.
 
There is a $25 difference between the Crucial & the Samsung not much difference in speed but the place that's selling the Crucial i don't like them.

Should i just swallow my damn pride and go to the place and get it :p

I have had two Corsair SSDs fail on me. The only other SSD I have had fail was a Patriot and they were known for it, that's why I got it for next to nothing and then RMA it when it died.

So of all of the SSDs I have used Corsair is the leading culprit for me.

And I've used a lot of SSDs and have been using them since they pretty much came out (my first was a 32gb X32 Corsair that cost me £150). That too had issues (it didn't support TRIM) and the wait for the bios update was lengthy and quite risky.

How long ago did you have the Corsair SSD's i know with the new ones they do rate pretty highly, I'm sure back in the day when SSD's were coming out i think a lot of people had problems most of the OCZ SSD's where pretty bad i know i have one of the worst ones ever :p
