i am in the need for a new PSU. My old trusty BFG 1000w is slowly dying on me
sad.gif
. It makes unbearable squeals when my Radeon 6990 is pushed. (I have confirmed it was the PSU).

Up in the poll which one do you suggest. If it is not in the poll, that means i don't want it, just these ones.

Thank you.

the Hale. have not heard a bad thing about them. I dont know if I can ever trust CMpsu's again after what I found about my old 600watt psu from them. and afaik ocz is getting out of the psu market so I would steer away due to warranty issues. Silverstone has had a very strong rep forever afaik lol so its a toss for me between the 2 but i like the sexy white hale

    muhahahahahahahaha
well then ya have 3 I'd choose lol I love my Corsair 750watter

Just a quick question? an 850 watt will be enough wont it? I did the newegg power supply recommendation and it recommended about an 890 watt PSU.

My specs are:

AMD 965 will be 1100t soon

Crosshair Formula III

Radeon 6990

4gb XMS3 1600 will be 8gb soon

7200rpm HDD

Will a good 850w PSU like the ones said above be good enough? I have heard the Newegg PSU recommendation was not very accurate, but i don't know if this is true or not.

yeah I have heard they over rate some thing on thier calc for psu's I think 850 should be enough but 1k would be better.
biggrin.gif
leaves ya room for expansion and also keeps ya well under that 80% mark making the psu work less. CHeck the stats using our psu calc thats in the psu section.

well I ran it using ur specs (had to guestimate some) and came up at 892watts as well

It says 803, and 753min.

This is with all the addons i want too.

1100t 4ghz

2nd hdd, 1ssd

and a second set of RAM sticks.

I just hate ordering something, then not having it work. waste of my time! But I have heard that Corsair is the BEST you can get if you are nearing your max watt limit.

It looks like Frys sells the AX850

yeah I went with the recommended wattage not usage but as I said I had to guess on some things like # of fans I chose 6 led and u have the 6990 wc'd right so I added a pump

hell I ran it for my specs as well and came up that I'm prolly short with my 750watter
sad.gif
since I'm running 6 drives 7 counting the dvd burner

Even with all the new addons i still have plenty of head room. I just like the 850AX over the other ones more because i wont need to use the NZXT braided cables (They take up WAY to much room when cable managing).

I'd go for the Corsair AX850, it doesn't make a noise before around 200W (passively cools until then), and I actually can't hear it much at all (certainly not over the background noise) when I have the PC at full load.

I'd go with the AX850 as well Tom used it with his SHadow H2O build with no issues plus I redid the psu calc and came up with different results weird I inputted the same info and came up alot lower.

so IMHO

AX850

Aye, I have far too many, more than I shall ever need too. Cables look good too, I think nearly all my cables are black by default in the rig.

I just picked up the AX850 Today. This thing purse like a kitty. Before When Crysis 1 would start the intro would make my PC squeal like crazy. Now... NOTHING! (well just a little squeak but hardly audible.) I approve of this purchase!
