Hey guys

Iv wanted a modular psu for ages and now im making the excuse to do it as im gonna put my current in with other parts as a 2nd pc (to sell or whatever) which is a 600w gamextreme...gone well for me so far

So im after a new psu, modular, to power my current rig (8800gt, q6600 overclocked, 4gb ram, asus maxmimus rampage etc.) but also be able to potentially house a top end gpu (probably not sli tbh) and last for the next 5 years or so.

Large warranties are nice, high efficiency to keep the bills down, not too loud and not amazingly overpriced

*goes to check reviews in the meantime*

I'd say a 700w-ish unit from Silverstone, BeQuiet, Enermax or Corsair would meet your needs and have 8 pin connectors for future cards :)

A HX620 would be fine, although they are very expensive lately, I'd go with something else if you plan to buy soon.

Could take a look at the Cooler master real power m700.

Very good suggestion, forgot about Cooler Master

save some pennies and get the OCZ modxstream I reviewed.. It happily powered my q6600 @ 3.6ghz, 4gb ram, 260gtx overclocked and 3 hard disks :)

Without any question the Corsair 620HX, not least because it's one of the quietest around (it's made by Seasonic) and it comes with a 5 year warranty (the Seasonic only comes with 3). Given the green agenda, and given just how difficult it is to cool high end card, GPU manufacturers will start to level off or even reduce the power requirements for their cards, leaving just the psu manufacturers to try and convince us that we need 1kW+ power supplies. It's a good bet that 620W is going to be more than ok going forwards.
