which has a better PPD

Hi guys, i was wondering which of the following CPU's have the greatest PPD and which is the best for the money.

i5 2500k

or

i7 950

or

i7 2600k

Now I know that both the i7's have HT so they can do pump out more PPD, so my question is how much more (is the 100$ premium for HT worth it?)

and second question between the i7's which is better??? (i'm think around a 4GHz for the 950 and probably 4.4Ghz on SB)

Thanks for spreading your knowledge guys

Ive not tested the 2600K for ppd but the 950 will beat the 2500k because of the extra 'cores' from HT you can get bonus points.

2500k is about 15k PPD @ 4.7GHz

the other folders from the Redline family will fill in the gaps

I would assume the 2600k at the higher clock speed would be best vs the 950. If you can run 24/7 bigadv would be the best option and give you the most PPD. The 2500k wouldn't run bigadv as it only has the 4 threads.

With my 2500K @ 4.6ghz I have been getting, depending on the WU, between 16 - 18,000 PPD with nothing else running and just F@H open. But depending on the WU and how much I am using my PC ~13,000 PPD.

Ive had a GPU or two on mine aswell so thats probs why mine is a smidge lower. That and the fact I hardly look at it!

Is it me or is this a tad to low, 4.6gig and only 13K! on the lowest

well skips the 2500 CPU

EDIT my i5 750 at 3800Mhz does 10000PPD and that's with 2x GPU Folding as well so stop the GPU's and i will get the same PPD ..

13K is when I am using my PC as well as folding, I only get 16-18 when I am not doing anything else at all.

Before I overclocked I was only getting 13,600 max whilst doing nothing other than folding.

in my experience AMD GPU folding uses two cpu cores. leaving my poor lil hexacore decapitated.

i am looking forward to seeing the results of folding on the new openCL core later this year. i shall wait 'n see

Thanks everyone for the replies

So i can see that you guys probably don't have the 2600k folding

but you only gave numbers for the 2500k, what about the 950? and do you think either the 950 or 2600k (we'll assume about the same preformance for now) is worth the extra 100$)

thanks again

The extra $100 for the HT on the 950 or 2600k is worth it IMO.

If this was strictly a gaming rig I'd say no, but for folding the 4 extra threads are worth it.

i get 14-15K from my 1055T @ 4.2GHz (SMP6)

this drops to 9-10K when i use my 5850 simultaneously (having to use SMP4)

Yea, when i get to building this (probably end of may/beginning of june) it will be for folding when i'm not on the computer, school work while i'm on it, and just a bit of gaming in my spare time (which is not very often as a uni student

Oh, and what's the differences between all those SMP like 2, 4, 7 ..... i just use GPU Tracker V2 and the "-SMP" option, but it doesn't have all those fancy different types

i use the tracker too

in the settings for SMP you can specify the number of cores to use to fold with.

4 cores = SMP4

5 cores = SMP5

6 cores = SMP6

etc...

Mate consider chip lottery. My 950 can't do 4 at decent volts for 24/7 folding. You never know what you're going to get for your money.
